Iraq claims the largest known oil reserves
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/index.php?sid=361280

Iraq has dramatically increased the official size of its oil reserves and is now said to have largest oil reserves in the world.

The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister told The Times that new exploration showed that his country has the world’s largest proven oil reserves, with as much as 350 billion barrels.

The new data suggests Iraq will exceed Saudi Arabia’s oil supply.

The new figure is triple the country’s present proven reserves and exceeds that of Saudi Arabia’s estimated 264 billion barrels of oil.

Now i know why we invaded for cheaper gas prices :sarcasm:

7. It was far earlier than that.
In the early-mid fifties the major oil companies got together and decided which areas they would and wouldn't exploit - or allow to be exploited - in both Iran and Iraq. To paraphrase Nancy Disaster, those reserves were "off the table."

Having watched an excellent Documentary on FDR's WH years on PBS today, I was (thunder)struck by the fact that everything we've experienced over the past eight years is simply an extension of Big Business' plans to dominate and rape the country - most of which was derailed until 1980 by the laws, regulations and oversight put in place during FDR's tenure and the rise of the Democratic party, which continued to slap them down and hold them back.

What I don't understand is the painfully obvious level of greed: Those who would pillage the U.S. have had it good for the past sixty years, yet it seems they won't be content until the country is in shambles - likely even worse then the period of the depression. What profit is there in killing the cash cow?

They're a sick and scary psychopathic bunch of shits.

14. Those SECRET meetings that the Extreme Court ruled could be kept from Public.
Yes I agree with you. The oil was divided up at that time and the Iraq "War" was a forgone conclusion...Long before 9-11

3. The Bush Foreign Policy
Millions of lives for billions of barrels. But of course that is really the policy of quite a few in Congress who supported all of this.

These estimates may or may not be accurate. In either case, they are meaningless. Too many other reserves are being depleted. It won't take that long to start depleting the Iraqi reserves.

Bush no doubt will continue to try to find basis to "liberate" Iran and Syria. I doubt the Saudis will allow it. The House of Bush has found that the House of Saud is much more powerful than it thought.

We opened a Pandora's Box when we invaded Iraq and then occupied it. King Abdullah made it quite clear what his position was when he referred to the "illegal occupation" and as things stand, that oil in Iraq is worthless if Saudi Arabia decides to cut the West off completely.

Which may happen. The Bushes are evil. They are also very stupid.

The documents were produced in response to Judicial Watch’s on-going efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in government on behalf of the American people. Judicial Watch aggressively pursues those goals by making FOIA requests and seeking access to public information concerning government operations. When the government fails to abide by these “sunshine laws” Judicial Watch files lawsuits in order to obtain the requested information and to hold responsible government officials accountable.

“These documents show the importance of the Energy Task Force and why its operations should be open to the public,” stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton

CHENEY ENERGY TASK FORCE DOCUMENTS FEATURE MAP OF IRAQI OILFIELDS

Commerce & State Department Reports to Task Force Detail Oilfield & Gas Projects, Contracts & Exploration

Saudi Arabian & UAE Oil Facilities Profiled As Well

(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption and abuse, said today that documents turned over by the Commerce Department, under court order as a result of Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit concerning the activities of the Cheney Energy Task Force, contain a map of Iraqi oilfields, pipelines, refineries and terminals, as well as 2 charts detailing Iraqi oil and gas projects, and “Foreign Suitors for Iraqi Oilfield Contracts.” The documents, which are dated March 2001, are available on the Internet at: www.JudicialWatch.org.

The Saudi Arabian and United Arab Emirates (UAE) documents likewise feature a map of each country’s oilfields, pipelines, refineries and tanker terminals. There are supporting charts with details of the major oil and gas development projects in each country that provide information on the projects, costs, capacity, oil company and status or completion date.

Judicial Watch has been seeking these documents under FOIA since April 19, 2001. Judicial Watch was forced to file a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (Judicial Watch Inc. v. Department of Energy, et al., Civil Action No. 01-0981) when the government failed to comply with the provisions of the FOIA law. U.S. District Court Judge Paul J. Friedman ordered the government to produce the documents on March 5, 2002.
