Buy a car - get free gas or a gun
Dealer Offers Free Gun With Car Purchase

POSTED: 9:26 pm CDT May 20, 2008

BUTLER, Mo. -- A local car dealer is holding a controversial promotion involving guns.

Max Motors in Butler is offering anyone who buys a car the choice of $250 in gas or a free semi-automatic handgun.

"Like I say, it's a choice -- protection or gas," said Walter Moore with Max Motors.

Moore said he came up with the gas or guns promotion.

"We got high gas prices, theft, carjackings, innocent people getting hurt," Moore told KMBC's Chris Nagus.

So far, the handgun is a more popular choice.

1. See what ya do is you take the gun and then drive to the
gas station and take your fuel at gunpoint.

You'd have your car, a new gun, and a full tank of gas, if not other snacks and items you robbed from the convenience store.

Win-win.

13. Are you implying that...
Are you implying that handguns cause crime, or that the people that are buying these cars should be disqualified from firearms ownership?

20. neither, just that more handguns in circulation leaves a greater potential for gun related violence

19. You still have to pass a Federal background check and fill out the gun-trace paperwork to get it.
Edited on Thu May-22-08 10:10 AM by benEzra
Criminals, those adjudicated mentally incompetent, those under 21, and those subject to restraining orders are barred. And you'd still have to get a state license in order to carry it, unless you live in Vermont or Alaska.

I think it's a cool promo, but most quality handguns cost a lot more than $250. My wife's Glock cost over $400 back in the '90s, and my S&W cost around $700, IIRC. You might be able to get a .22 target pistol, a no-frills .38 revolver, or a low-capacity 9mm for $250.

17. The gun will last you longer than the gas will...
and when all of the oil is gone then the gun will also be more useful than the car.
