Another victory in Kansas - thanks to our great governor
Kansas House leader gives up on coal plant, handing victory to Sebelius
By JIM SULLINGER
The Kansas City Star

TOPEKA | House Speaker Melvin Neufeld has thrown in the towel. He will not bring lawmakers back to the Statehouse May 29 for another attempt to allow construction of two coal-fired power plants in western Kansas.

The latest bill to do that was vetoed Friday by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.

Neufeld, an Ingalls Republican, has failed to produce the two-thirds majority to override two other coal vetoes by the Democratic governor.

Getting enough lawmakers to return at the end of this month for a new override attempt was just too difficult a task.

“Scheduling conflicts of a number of House and Senate members and circumstances beyond our control make it impossible to attempt an override of the economic stimulus bill,” said Neufeld, an Ingalls Republican.

He called the governor’s veto a “tremendous setback for Kansas.”

4. We don't need no stinkin coal plant
for Colorado!! Their laws are too strict to build a plant there, so the idiot republicans in western Kansas decided they should build a plant out there and sell the power to Colorado.

Thank gawd our wonderful governor vetoed this horrid bill.
