The U.S. military said its troops shot dead 11 militants in eastern Baghdad on Wednesday, but police and several residents said at least some of the dead were civilians killed by U.S. snipers.

In the courtyard of one house in Obaidi, a Mehdi Army bastion, black-robed women wailed over the bloody corpse of a man half-covered by a blanket, while men beat their chests in a sign of grief.

"He was shot by an American sniper. He was loitering outside the house. He was not even holding a piece of wood," one of the male mourners told Reuters.

An official at police headquarters in eastern Baghdad said 11 bodies had been removed from Obaidi, including three elderly men, two street cleaners and three Mehdi Army fighters.

He blamed U.S. snipers for the killings.

.....chalk this one up to "winning hearts and minds"......

1. Uhm, I don't think it's the Iraqi civilians who have to do the "understanding"
(but you were probably being sarcastic and didn't add the :sarcasm: thing for the benefit of us 'dolts', right?)

5. Well, when you go to post a response to a thread or start an original thread...
JUST ABOVE where you are typing is "Message Options". If you click on "Smilies Lookup table" you will see all of the simple smiles/sarcasm tags, etc. It will tell you how to make that emoticon appear.

It's usually a word between two colons, such as :

:hi: : hi:
:bounce: : bounce :
:sarcasm: : sarcasm :
 : think :

4. You can kill someone who is threatening your life, you can
would someone who is doing the same. You can wound and incapacitate someone who is not threatening your life, or you can just put him in the grave if that is your M.O. The bright side is that they aren't calling him a terrorist yet.
