Another Republican going down - in Missouri

Kay Barnes

New poll: Graves up over Barnes in MO 6th District

Republican incumbent Sam Graves has the early lead over his Democratic challenger, Kay Barnes, in Missouri's 6th District congressional race.

The count: 49-39 percent, according to SurveyUSA in a poll conducted for KCTV, Channel 5 in Kansas City.

Barnes' early problem: men.

Among men, Graves leads by 19 points, SurveyUSA said. Among women, the two are tied.

UPDATE: Democrats point out that the fact that Graves, a four-term incumbent, remains below 50 percent. That, they say, is not a good sign.

Kay was mayor of KC until a year ago. She is WONDERFUL and had a very successful term as mayor, revitalizing downtown and bringing in new business. Sam Graves is a Bush clone, who has rubber stamped all of Bush's failed policies.

Here is the attack ad Sam put out last week against Kay:

3. An incumbent polling below 50% this early in the race is not going to win
These numbers are GREAT for Kay.

Do you know about his brother Todd, the former US attorney? He got caught up in that scandal.

6. Being up by 10% doesn't sound like going down to me
I'd be pretty comfortable right now with that lead if I was in the incumbent over there.

you are right that the <50% is significant.

light district too. Over 2500 to 3000 were there plus everyone at Blue Springs and Independence watch parties. He won by over 12,000,000 votes.

Kicked this, anytime a republican goes or may go down, worth a kick.

16. I saw the traffic as I drove through downtown earlier this evening
I find it all kind of sad. Too bad we can't get that level of enthusiasm at our anti-war rallies.

17. Yeah, true but don't let it get you down, like they said there is too much
of a disconnect with this war. It is something a lot of people watch on TV, no sacrifice on their part. You can be proud of all your hard work and what you have done.

19. From Kos:
The battle in Missouri is heating up. Sam Graves is fighting for his Republican life in MO-06 against Kay Barnes, the well-liked former Mayor of Kansas City. This week, Graves rolled out his first ad.....and boy was it a stinker. Just about as sleazy and low as they come. In fact, it was so low that they dared not even air it in Kansas City - the largest market in MO-06. The ad features a black man dancing in a bar with two women - one black and one white - and accuses Kay Barnes of having "San Francisco values" and being funded by "west coast liberals."

So.....according to Sam Graves, because Nancy Pelosi - the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and the highest-ranking elected woman in American history - threw a fundraiser for Kay Barnes, it means that voting for Kay Barnes is the equivalent of voting for "San Francisco values" - ie homosexuality, abortion, etc. Graves thinks that Kay Barnes wouldn't be in this race if it weren't for all that "west coast liberal" funding. Nevermind that Graves wouldn't be doing nearly as well financially without questionable funding from the gas and oil industry and fairly recent fundraising visits from both Bush and Cheney on his behalf. It is hard to say who Sam Graves is working for in DC, but it sure doesn't appear to be Missouri families.

And, is it any wonder that Graves only had the guts to air this ad in one, smaller TV market and on rural radio in Missouri? Is Graves afraid that some Missourians - and Kansas Citians in particular - just might share some of those "San Francisco values" of tolerance and peace and won't take too kindly to his racist, homophobic pandering? If recent elections are any indication, voters in traditionally Republican leaning districts are not falling for this type of "politics of division." The voters have heard the right wing rhetoric for the last eight years - and more importantly - they've seen the results. They feel it in their pocketbook everyday. And, they won't be distracted by Republican boogeymen this November.

But, what do the political experts have to say about the ad? KC Star columnist, Steve Kraske, asked a political science professor:

“It’s sleazy,” said Rich Fulton, a political science professor at Northwest Missouri State University. “It’s homophobic, and it borders on the racist. It just says to me (Graves) is desperate.”

20. The funniest part of the GOP's attack ad...
...starts at the 15 second mark.

A picture of Kay Barnes appears on the right-hand side of the screen while hands counting money appear on the left. A disembodied woman says, "Kay Barnes is raising hundreds of dollars from west coast..."

The picture on the left (Barnes picture remains on screen) changes to some random man and woman as the anonymous woman says, "... liberals by promoting their values..."

As the woman says, "...not ours..." the words "Not our values" appear on the screen over the dancing ethnics.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but isn't the ad saying San Francisco values are traditional (man and woman), whereas "Sam Graves'" values are kinky?

What is Sam Graves trying to tell us?

If you know what Sam Graves is trying to say, please post it to his Wikiality page, so everyone can know what a kinky bastard Sam really is!
