3. It was 4.99 and 9/10ths at a station in Malibu a few weeks ago. For premium.
That's a premium alright. That's the highest I've seen around these parts. It's down a hair there now, but that's where it topped out.

4. I bought gas in Lincolnwood (Pratt and Cicero) today....
for $3.97.9. Best price I've seen anywhere. Happily, it is close to work.

Where I live in the near west suburbs, it is $407.9

11. Was $3.89 at the competitive station in Gurnee this morning...
Tonight, the same station is $4.15. That's a big jump, for one day (and yes, I know Lake / McHenry counties have it way better than the rest of Cook / other collars). Like the OP said - speculation is the cause. We have plenty of gasoline inventories at the moment.

9. I be visiting the west burbs this weekend.
The cost of gas in Chicago will probably add $2 or $3 to the cost of my trip from western Wisconsin.

10. Big oil gets 17 billion in tax breaks and haven't opened one new fucking oil rig site yet!
American people haven't a clue they're being taken for their cash and this government is giving them a free pass all along.

We should start protesting the oil companies to fucking produce or skip the billions in tax breaks which are paid for by you and me...

12. It was $3.75 next door to me and I almost drove into something in shock.

Unreal. And it's going to stay like this until the speculators can find better returns elsewhere. OPEC and Bush have their profits, but the inflated price is almost totally from the oil contracts.

13. And if the regular prices are that high imagine the cost of the gas
that truckers are using. There is a big reason why food is going up.
