Would anybody be interested in a job seekers / out of work support group?
I checked the career advice forum, but there really doesn't seem to be much going on there.

Honestly, what I would *like* to do is set up a weekly conference call at a set time so we could all talk instead of just typing, and actually get a greater level of human interaction than you get through a computer screen. Plus, a set weekly time would be good for deadlines, morale, etc. I have a freeconferencecall.com account, and although you do have to dial a long distance number to use the call, so many people have cell phones today with free long distance that hopefully that would not be an issue for most.

Thoughts / ideas?

1. Yes I'd like a jobseekers group
I'm not so definite about the weekly conference call but a forum would be great.

18. I don't need one, sweetie, but I will support it for you and others who
do. (You never know. I just might anyway.) :)

2. I'm in.
whether it is forum, or conference calls; if you can walk us through the conference call thing once, I am sure we can do it.

6. It's pretty easy -- and maybe we could do both,
have a forum and have conference calls.

I'd love to have an in person meetup but I mean it would probably cost both of us $10 in gas plus if we ate out it would easily be another $10. With no income coming in, that's hard to justify, although I believe job search expenses are tax-deductible (someone told me that, not sure if it's so, is it?) Anyway I'm cutting costs to the bone and if we can work it in a "free" way instead I'd prefer to try to do that!

7. If you are searching for a job in the same area, yes
If you are trying to change careers, no.
I haven't checked this in years but this was the rule the last time I checked many years ago.

10. Can you repost this in the career advice forum?
GD moves very fast and I'm afraid that interested people may not get to see this post.

11. I did -- not much response.
Maybe those of us in the thread who are interested can just talk amongst ourselves down in that forum. I'm sure DU doesn't *need* another group-- I just don't think that forum gets visited much.

13. I dont need a job, I'm doing three of them
My own business is rather slow, so I'm driving a cab a few nights a week as well as doing odds and ends and painting rental property for a local realtor.

17. I drive at the local airport only and can average 75 -125 a night
from 5p- 12a or so. Not great, but not terrible to do a few nights a week

15. I'd rather HIRE someone
we need a receptionist. $32 a year. All we want is someone who has anything remotely like a work ethic, knows basic computer skills and phone manners and has a HS diploma. We've gone through 3 in the last year in spite of the fact all but 3 in the main office have been working here for over 12 years - I've been here for 3 and I'm so happy with my work environment I probably won't leave until I have my wake. Maybe we should start recruiting at senior citizen groups instead of Hot Jobs.
