Is this true, or a silly urban legend?
...and please forgive me if it is just a legend or hoax, which it may well be, but I thought here would be the most reliable place to find an answer.

An e-mail sent to me, by a friend who also really wanted to know if it's true (and at least it's non-partisan):

Is it the NBA, NFL, NHL......?

36 have been accused of spousal abuse

7 have been arrested for fraud

19 have been accused of writing bad checks

117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses

3 have done time for assault

71, repeat, 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit

14 have been arrested on drug-related charges

8 have been arrested for shoplifting

21 currently are defendants in lawsuits, and

84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year

Who is it?

It’s the 435 members of the United States Congress

1. Snopes link. It's not really verifiable.

4. Some of those I believe. The bankruptcies, credit, and lawsuits for sure.
It's not that hard to ruin your credit and go bankrupt, particularly if you're in business. Same with lawsuits. They're very common with business people. The DUI thing is questionable. I'll buy 84 having drunk driving convictions, it's consistent with what I believe is the national average of 1 in 4 adults (shocking, I know) but I doubt they've all been in the last year.
