Guessing on who the next VP will be
If I were going to put a name in a sealed envelope today it would be Jim Web. Lots of reasons but they all mean the same thing, get the conservative southern vote.

1. I am a big fan of Senator Webb
but I think the next (D) President needs him in the Senate. I opt for Governor Richardson as VEEP and General Clark as SECSTATE.

12. Tony Romo won't be available for a few more years.
After all those Super Bowl victories at least.

15. You know, I think they'll be using Marion Barber to wear down the "D"
and then bring in a fresh Felix Jones to run past a tired "D". It will help having pacman jones and chad johnson in the starting line-up also.

BTW, Richardson would make an excellent choice for VP! Six months ago I might have suggested Eliot Spitzer, so I try not to prognosticate much.

4. Agree with you, Boss,
though it would be ok by me to have Richardson SOS and Clark as VP too.

6. General Clark would be a superb running mate or Defense Secretary, too.
'Cause he'd bring the South, and some heft in the national defense arena. You don't get much more muscle in that department than the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO.

But you're absolutely correct. We cannot, and we DARE not pull another Democrat out of the Senate, especially Jim Webb. I like him a lot and I think he fits a Defense Secretary bill to a T, but we need him in the Senate. We need ALL our Democrats in place in the Senate because we need as many D's in there to counter-act the r's, and have President Obama's back. And Jim Webb is a freshman Senator - wouldn't blunt the "he's too new" argument very well, either.

And it HAS TO be a Democrat. No Chuck Hagel talk, please! It's like voting for Ron Paul. Yeah, fine, he's against the war. But most everything else he stands for is for shit.

14. Clark can't be the Def Sec without special permission from Congress.
In order to be selected, a Def. Sec. has to be independent of any military service for at least 10 years. Clark retired in 2000, making him ineligible without Congress's prior approval (in other words, a lot of hoop-jumping).

I think Clark should be the Veep or Secretary of State.

7. I'm OK with Richardson but he has got to shave the beard
I think Tony Zinni gives you the same demographic as Webb and you don't lose a Democratic Senator.

10. For a long time he was my guess as well
I think that he could do a great deal of long-term good by serving as VP and maybe even a run himself in years to come but then I got thinking about the realities of prejudice in this country. The team would be portrayed as the black and the mexican and in combination I think that could be awfully harmful to the ticket. The bigots haven't gone away, they just aren't as loud as they used to be.

The thing that bothers me most is loss of any seats at all in the Congress - either side of the dome.

19. I agree
Governor Richardson as VEEP and General Clark as SEC-STATE, Hillary Clinton as SEC-OF-WAR. And, while we are at it, John Edwards as Attorney General until a Supreme court vacancy opens up. Rachel Maddow as press secretary, Bill Clinton as Ambassador to the Vatican, and Ex-President George W. Bush as official pet goat!

Other great appointments would include Donald Rumsfield as Ambassador to Hell, Richard Chenney as Chief Federal Prison inmate (so many Dicks, so few Richards), Alberto R. Gonzales as special assistant to the undersecretary of While House gardener, Harriet Miers as special assistant guide dog to Alberto R. Gonzales. Condoleezza Rice as Secretary of the new "United States Department of Redundancy Department", Richard Armatage as special press leaker to The National enquirer, and of course, Joshua B. Bolten would make a really good "Special Undersecretary of Court Jesters"

2. Maybe, but I would be concerned about the loss in the Senate of two
Democratic senators. Yes, the govs of both states are dem and would replace them with dems, but I think that two senators will not be on the dem ticket. How about a governor like Bill Richardson or Ed Rendell (I don't think rendell would be a good match).

5. I do not think the VP will be a senator. A governor is a stronger bet and brings more of a
balance to the conference room brain storming that takes place in the WH.

such as
Strickland from Ohio

Sibelius from Kansas

Richardson

9. Strickland from Ohio or Ed Rendell from Pennsylvania would be great, too.
Those are both "battleground" states that Obama could use some help with. The only reason I'd rule out Sibelius is that it's probably too much to ask of too many voters to accept a ticket with the first black AND a woman on it. Sometimes America needs to be brought along in little steps, unfortunately.

17. This is Obama's nice way of saying....
Hillary, there will be a cold day in Hell before the day comes that I pick you to be my VP.

It is a nice subtle way to let everyone know the "Dream Ticket" won't happen and Obama will not have VP forced on him.

18. If we are going to go with a National Security Figure, make it Tony Zinni
I know a lot of people here like Wes Clark, but the issues with the end of his time at EUCOM could come up and it wouldn't help the ticket.

Zinni doesn't have that problem and has a lot of experience in the Middle East.

Keep Webb in the senate.
