i thought we elected them to end the war, not attach domestic bills onto horrific war bills. not a victory in my opinion.

Senate Approves $165B for Iraq, Afghanistan Wars

The Senate today approved $165 billion to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan well into the next presidency, but in a break with President Bush, it also approved billions of dollars in domestic spending and a generous expansion of veterans education benefits.

The war funding measure, which passed 70-26, will be twinned with the domestic spending package and sent to the House for final approval. Senators stripped the package of all language governing the conduct of the Iraq war or mandating troop withdrawals that had been in a previous version approved by the House.

But the separate domestic spending package served notice to the White House that in a political year, Congress will want to couple spending in Iraq with priorities at home.

The 75-22 vote surprised even the measure's advocates and showed clearly the impact of the looming November election on Republican unity. Senate Republicans who face reelection broke first on the amendment, followed by other Republicans who quickly jumped on board.

3. The expansion of education
is a new GI Bill. The old one basically created the middle class.I have no problem giving the men and women who risk their lives for no good reason a chance at life when they get back. Not to mention it hangs Mccain out to dry because he was against it.
