Travel Channel right now.. Tony Bourdain in Beirut.

It starts as a food/travelogue and ends up showing the bombing of Beirut in 2006.

Just a heads up for AB fans and history buffs.

I loved the way all the Lebanese were taking the whole thing in stride while Bourdain realized that as a foreigner, he was a target.

During that war, I kept checking in to Beirut Nights radio. They never stopped streaming, no matter what else was going on. The Lebanese are right--the party never does stop.

so let's drink! I hope I can keep that attitude when my country is being bombed.

That's why I really like Bourdain's show and books. He keeps a good perspective and connects with regular people.

3. I'm reading "Nasty Bits" right now, a collection of his shorter essays

that fit right in with my lousy but slowly improving sight. His chapter on spending a couple of weeks dining anyplace he didn't need to wear shoes was a classic.
