wapo getting desperate for subscribers
i was getting Sunday only delivery and finally cancelled it. i got phone calls and mailings at

bargain prices to restart. now, i was in safeway and they had a guy there with along with a table

handing out free papers. he had a stack of plastic coupon cards for various things and started

dealing them out for me. he was really doing the hard sell and finally i told him i just didn't care

for their news. i don't know if it's the economy or people aren't buying their slant. besides the

walter reed story, what big story have they broken?

1. So freaking tired of the NYT Weekender ads
all over cable.

I think it's just that people don't want print anymore. I certainly don't. The only reason I got it back then was so I could do the crossword. And you can do that online too now.

2. Anything story they 'broke' is probably a story designed to make scrub look good
and God knows that's almost impossible.

3. It's become a really lousy paper- they slant their copy in every story they run
no matter what the topic is. Even their science stories have become suspect.

4. I twice dropped my paper
The Commercial Appeal in Memphis. They finally called me back an offered 5 dollars for a month when I was paying $54 for 3 months. When I wasn't subscribing I was at least buying the Sunday paper for the coupons, so it seemed like a pretty good deal. I usually only read the funnies though. Their news is garbage, especially the national news. I think they were desperate for subscribers to keep the advertising rates high.

5. Marketing suggestion: try telling the truth, no republicon-corporate spin
You know, journalism in service to the citizens of the nation, not the corporate-industrial-political complex.

That way consumers will finally be able to distinguish the Post from the Moonie Times.

About time.

6. Reports on a nice summer impeachment hearing would help boost sales.
Maybe they should start beating that drum?
