Gay man assaulted a few hours after California Supreme Court rules against same-sex marriage ban
Three Sacramento men have been arrested after a beating that law enforcement officials describe as a hate crime against homosexuals, police said Friday.

The Thursday evening incident at a Sacramento gas station came just hours after the California Supreme Court issued a ruling overturning a state ban on same-sex marriages.

A 23-year-old Sacramento man was sitting with another man in a car near the station's restroom when the three suspects asked if he was a homosexual, Sacramento Police Officer Michelle Lazark said.

The man said he was. When he got out of the car, the three men beat and kicked him, Lazark said. He did not require medical treatment.

8. And they bring a message
That is religious based and anti-gay and highly racist. The folks you refer to are the number one reason I tried to get our Party to take a stand against the McClurkin events. If one set of 'preachers' gets to attack one minority at Democratic events, then another set is going to feel free to go after that minority and add the ones they don't like as well. Soon you have the "anti- Jew and Gay'preachers standing up on our candidate's stages, or we will have to make actual rules that allow for anti-gay Donnie but do not allow for his anti-Black or anti-Jew counterparts. Is the DNC willing to write down that gay bashing is ok but not other forms of minority baiting, or is it willing to let every prejudice that is wrapped in religion be spewed to gain the votes of those who share that prejudice? If I am from Latvia, can I run on an 'my religion does not like blacks' platform within this Party? If I am Armenian, can I run on 'the Turks are murdering monsters' and have such messages spoken? These are the real questions around the McClurkin events, questions that were not faced, and now will not be until there is another Evangelical with another group to hate and some candidate who needs those hate votes.

11. I don't get the connection
One of the perpetrators has a "foreign-sounding" name, but the other 2 sound pretty waspish.

I don't think we have to worry too much about swarthy, foreign neo-nazi bogeymen; our home-grown thugs are vicious and cowardly enough. Good anglo-saxon protestants are leading the charge and filling the ranks in the Gay Crusades.

2. "We don't NEED hate crimes laws, the existing laws on the books are enough!"
Just thought I would get that out of the way for those who surely will chime in.

3. Imagine Ellen DeGeneres and Gore Vidal
driving down the streets of Sacramento, stopping the vehicle, and asking a man on the sidewalk if he were heterosexual, and, upon learning that he was, commencing to kick him, and then getting back into their car and driving off, laughing, fully satisfied that they had justifiably asserted their lesbian and gay identities.

4. This is yet another example of why we need Hate Crimes legislation.
Enough is enough.

5. Also, Another Example Of Why. . .
. . .we should be able to deport idiots who would do something like beat up someone because of their color, ethnicity, or gender preference. "America is about diversity. You can't handle diversity. So, get out and stay out!"

7. I Didn't Say It Did
I think we should deport anyone stupid enough to do something like this. I know the Constitution doesn't allow for it. I just wish it did.

9. I disagree.
Tossing them out of this country won't stop them from doing these crimes elsewhere. Just because it's not happening here doesn't solve the problem.

10. OK
Then we'll agree to disagree. Besides i didn't say i was going to start writing Durbin and Obama to start pushing for a Constitutional amendment. I just find these sort of folks extremely useless, highly irritating, and that they serve no social purpose.
