Gas hit $4.19 in Michigan
So gas jumped twenty cents yesterday in Michigan hitting the new record high of 4.19 for my area. For an area that receives a lot of money from tourism, and from the point of view of someone whose car is on empty, this is not a good sign.

We have just changed day care providers for Little Robot to save money and cut back on our driving, as the new provider is a block away from where Mrs.Giant Robot works. We are hoping those changes help us out enough, but fuck things are tough up here. This is not helping one bit.

1. I think about what the ripple effect is going to do to the tourist industry.

Less traveling, less spending, less tax revenues, less money in city/county/state coffers.... :sigh:

2. We are silly as a country I think
In that we fail to see the connectivity of things. This will become a spiraling disaster for my area if prices stay at this level for any period of time during the summer months.

4. And their buddies in the completely unregulated $1 trillion hedge fund industry.
They are sloshing money around the commodities market without any concern as to the fundamentals or consequences.

5. Just checked our local Jackson Speedway price and indeed it did go up to $4.19.
I topped off the tank and filled the lawnmower gas can for 3.84 on Tuesday.

6. I'm just hoping it did not jump anymore
While I am stuck at work. Maybe it won't be more painful than yesterday. I know hoping in vain....

8. If you live in metro Detroit, buy your gas on 8 Mile RD, between 75 and Mound
Those gas stations usually have the best prices in town. Sometimes, the western wayne suburbs have good prices, because they are closer to the refinery.

Usually prices in the city are slightly lower than the burbs (except near freeway exits). The only problem is dealing with the beggars in the parking lot-there isn't really that problem so much along 8 Mile as farther into the city.
