Bush in 2000: I'll bring down gas prices through 'sheer force of personality'
Bush in 2000: I'll bring down gas prices through 'sheer force of personality' Compiled by Lori Price 25 May 2008

On the campaign trail in June 2000, Texas Governor George W. Bush told reporters that if he was president, he would bring down gasoline prices through sheer force of personality, by creating enough political good will with oil-producing nations that they would increase their supply of crude. ''I would work with our friends in OPEC to convince them to open up the spigot, to increase the supply,'' Mr. Bush, the presumptive Republican candidate for president, told reporters. Implicit in his comments was a criticism of the Clinton administration as failing to take advantage of the good will that the United States built with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf war in 1991.

May 2008: Saudi Arabia's leaders made clear Friday they see no reason to increase oil production until customers demand it, apparently rebuffing President (sic) Bush amid soaring U.S. gasoline prices. Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal thinks Bush 'was satisfied.'

1. They're not going to do jack shit for bush.

NOBODY is going to bother doing business with him for the rest of the year. He's dead meat to them, worth less than nothing. They know how unpopular he is, what an incompetent, arrogant idiot he is, how his word means nothing - and never did, and how he's almost outta here. They don't have to do SQUAT for him, and they know it. He's the only one who doesn't realize it. He still thinks he's the king of the hill, anointed by God. Especially when he's still surrounded by fawning sycophants, a media echo chamber still virtually intact, and one girlfriend he installed at the State Department - who probably still fawns up a storm around him, too. The entire world is in on the joke now, only it's not all that funny. And those who are fully into the joke know it's no laughing matter anyway. He and his little coven of circle-jerkers are the only ones with no clue. And if they DO have a clue, they're too deep in denial to face it full-on.

3. Bush personality a negative force
Bill Bonner added up the cost of the war and the current price of gasoline and concluded that the US purchased the most expensive energy in the history of the world.

14. Bush didn't go to the Saudi Oil Sheiks to ask for lower gas prices...
...he went to get pictures of him with Saudi Oil Sheiks and for a story claiming he asked for lower gas prices.

Why would an oil man ask his bosses to lower his salary?

8. Bush using sheer force of personality
Bush: Mr. Sheik, Sir. Darling. Would you please, oh please pump some more oil?

Sheik: No.

Bush: Well, all righty then.

Sheik: How about emptying my ash tray on your way out?

9. and millions BOUGHT his line.... shame on them - forever and ever...
I know many have come over to our side - but they were so damn naive. My family (mostly) knew he was a lying turd and dumb as a rock.

They sure opened up the spigot --- the one that exits into his arse.

13. Just like everything else
He screwed that up too! crazy:

Seriously though, I don't think he ever had any plans to lower the price of oil, it was just a ploy to get elected. His goal since day one has been to take control of the oil reserves in the middle east, and allow his friends in the oil industry to manipulate prices by whatever means they could, and they have done a great job of it! They are getting every penny they can get this year before Bush is gone, and the American people are paying for that greed! The only question now is will the democrats do anything about it when they have control of the whitehouse and congress, or will we continue with the high price of oil and gas because even the dems are in the pockets of big oil?
