Large German telecom company accused of spying

Major German telecom firm, Deutsche Telekom, has been accused of spying on its employees.

Europe's biggest phone company has confirmed allegations in Spiegel magazine that it hired an outside firm to track hundreds of thousands of phone calls by senior executives and journalists.

But, it denied listening to the conversations, but said it only took details on who phoned whom.

Spiegel said that phone intercepts were set up in order to identify the source of leaks of sensitive financial information to financial journalists.
