Donations earn VFW post reprieve

No link, subscription required. Note that the fans of a 60's TV show "COMBAT!" kicked in $50 to this.

Donations earn VFW post reprieve

Enough donations were made over the weekend for Ray Arendell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2280 in Bellevue to catch up with the mortgage payments on its building.
“We barely squeaked it out, but I went to the bank Tuesday morning and covered our mortgage payments, plus $84,” said Steve Wiseman, the post’s financial officer. The post was almost $6,000 behind on the mortgage for its building at 2108 Franklin St. Wiseman said donations were made at the post, Great Western Bank and No Frills Supermarkets. He also said the post expected more donations to arrive by mail.
When asked how the post would cover next month’s estimated $10,000 overhead, which includes the mortgage, Wiseman said there were plans for fundraisers, including a Flag Day street dance on June 14, which will be preceded by a flag-etiquette session, both open to the public.
