Kate Couric complains of GE interference in her coverage
of the WH on war issues.

Apparently she and Bryan Williams, Charlie Gibson were interviewed about McClellan's assertion that the media wasn't hard enough on Bush. Gibson was the most pro-Bush in his response, and Katie commented that the media should ask the hard questions no matter what public opinion is. Said it will be the darkest time in journalism's history.

1. Did she complain then?
I don't remember hearing this.

Or it's out of the bag now so she has to Cover Her Ass?

2. That's the attitude she should have come on the scene with. She could
have been a much needed heroin. Now that her fluffy news cast has made her future uncertain, she's pulling a Hillary.

Too little, too late.

3. "Army Rangers ROCK!"
She's one of the most vociferous of war cheerleaders.

Front of the line for the guillotines.

11. Actually, it was the Navy Seals who rocked, but your point is well taken.
She was a cheerleader, all right.

12. Thanks for the correction.
Don't want to give the Seals short shrift.

5. Wow, what a mess these scum have created
Scotty-boy turns on his master for a buck and now everyone's having to play cover-your-ass.

This would be hilarious if it wasn't so seriously unfortunate that we were led to war under lies and profit (among other things we've had to suffer through) and people have lost their lives.

6. I don't understand-- it seems like she's acknowledging the corporations'
hand in advancing the government's propaganda, but then she said, "no matter what public opinion is"? Surely she isn't suggesting the coverage was pro-war because the country was pro war. I think that, insofar as the country was pro-war in 2003, it was because of the corporate media's one-sided coverage.

8. She was suggesting that the country was still in a state of
post-911-patriotism, which wasn't really all that true by 2003, IIRC. Prior to her comments, Bryan Williams had just mentioned how "patriotic" everyone was feeling and no one wanted to question that. IOW, they were cowards.

I can see how a regular employee of a company may feel like that have to tow the company line to suit their employers. But geez, IF she was trying to tell the truth, that should have been worth more than her job, and hopefully she would have been picked up again. She played the company lapdog because she was getting paid to. IF GE was worried about FOX taking their viewers (and I suppose they did to some degree), they could fire the anchors.

Too little, too late, Katie. She and Bryan were covering their asses. Charles Gibson is still a whore for Bushco.

10. I could have sworn she said GE, their war-profiteering owners, was pressuring them.

I guess we need a transcript.*** I thought she was pressured because her livelihood was at stake.

Frankly, if the WH were to call and criticize coverage and editorializing, I would hope that someone in the news business would have the balls to politely tell them to eat shit.

***ON EDIT: I found the link to the video -- Thanks!

***Second Edit: The interiew I saw had a different backdrop, a different interview, I think on CBS. She didn't specifically say all of that about the WH cutting them off of coverage.
