Here is the link to this sad story....
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24850863The problem I have with this story and his speech is that Germany and Japan both declared war on us, they both were belligerent toward us.
Iraq and Afghanistan, not so much.
In fact we declared war on them. I can understand Afghanistan, but Iraq....
Germany and Japan were mighty industrial nations that fought us tooth and nail for three long years.
Iraq and Afghanistan, not so much.
Germany and Japan were ruled by strong centralized governments that rallied the people to their side.
Iraq and Afghanistan, not so much.
Germany and Japan surrendered and we rebuilt their countries for purely national interests; we didn't want either to fall into chaos. We also used the existing structure to reconstitute these sovereign nations.
Iraq and Afghanistan, not so much.
In fact Iraq had a centralized government structure which we then bombed into chaos and now are imposing a government upon Nation states that are populated with people more loyal to their ethnic and religious sects than they are to the country as a whole.
We beat back Germany and Japan in less than three years.
Iraq and Afghanistan, not so much.
In fact, these two third world countries have kept the US pinned down in guerrilla like quagmires for more than five years.
In World War Two, the country rallied behind a popular president who wasn't afraid to ask the people to sacrifice.
In the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, not so much.
In fact the war has proved widely unpopular and wouldn't have even occurred had the press covered the real story to the lead up to invasion. And then we all know that this president is now despised and that no sacrifice was asked of the citizens except for those who chose to serve. Well, there is that huge budget deficit that pushes off the cost to generations that can't even vote, but hey, whats a little debt amongst friends.
So tell me once again, Mr. President, how are these wars of choice remotely akin to World War Two....
