"Freedom Fries" destroys their defense about lying us into war
Just read Rice's denials of McClellan's allegations.

They would have you believe, in their defense, that everyone got it wrong, they all were fooled.

But my recollection is that a large majority knew the illegal war crimes were based on false pretenses.

Nothing underscores this point more than Freedom Fries. Freedom Fries was all about a generated symbol of hatred for the French, simply because the French stood against the lies that were being propagated to get us into Iraq.

So if we all got it wrong, then why was the Anti French sentiment propagated in the media? Remember banning French wine, French toast and remember the term "cheese eating surrender monkies"?

Where would we be now without Freedom Fries? Nd by the way , are we still supposed to hate the French? Or when did that officially end? I missed the apology.

2. Richard Clarke had it right.
They slandered maligned everyone who tried to get the facts out. Like Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame.
The real big thing to come out of this is "This is all true according to someone on the inside during the whole scam!"

4. I never converted
Thought it was funny that there were second generation French Americans who were mindlessly blathering along, including some here on DU.

The Best Ever Argument I had was with a whole crew of conservative yuppies (email "funny email" list) who based their entire argument on the movie The Four Feathers, and the depth of their anti-french passion was exceeded only by their stupidity.

It ended in a lynching, of me - which just proves that if people aren't allowed to hate something, they then feel empowered to act irrationally and violently. Freaky. With "friends" like that . . .

To restate, with ex friends like that . . . .

6. Great point
Bushco and M$M attacked 'old' Europe because they did not buy the lies. Robin Cook's speech said it all.
<snip>
France has been at the receiving end of bucket loads of commentary in recent days.

It is not France alone that wants more time for inspections. Germany wants more time for inspections; Russia wants more time for inspections; indeed, at no time have we signed up even the minimum necessary to carry a second resolution.

We delude ourselves if we think that the degree of international hostility is all the result of President Chirac.

The reality is that Britain is being asked to embark on a war without agreement in any of the international bodies of which we are a leading partner - not NATO, not the European Union and, now, not the Security Council.

On July 29 2001, Condoleezza Rice appeared on CNN Late Edition With Wolf Blitzer. Guest host John King asked Rice about the sanctions against Iraq. She replies:

But in terms of Saddam Hussein being there, let's remember that his country is divided, in effect. He does not control the northern part of his country. We are able to keep arms from him. His military forces have not been rebuilt.
King doesn't think to ask Rice, if Hussein hasn't been getting arms and his forces weren't rebuilt after the 1991 Gulf War, why Bush considers him a threat.

11. Walter Jones had a major come-to-Jesus moment, though
and is now the staunchest anti-war Republican in the Congress.

It's just too damn funny, as the ultimate expression of right-wing lunacy, to let go.
