job of investigative reporting. Also because this war was not like any war I can think of. It was a fraud and should not have been given equal deference to other wars.

Here is an excerpt from Greg Mitchell's piece today.

Phil Donahue recalls that he was told he could not feature war dissenters alone on his MSNBC talk show and always had to have "two conservatives for every liberal." Moyers resurrects a leaked NBC memo about Donahue's firing that claimed he "presents a difficult public face for NBC in a time of war. At the same time our competitors are waving the flag at every opportunity."

2. BEFORE we were at war I remember CNN with graphics
saying "THE WAR IN IRAQ" with somber music. I was livid at the time thinking how even that was pushing us TO war.

3. Technically, we're not at war
We're in an armed conflict. Which I think means that some things Bush claims to be "war time powers" actually aren't (like authorizing torture).

For more than fifty years, the media has not been doing its job, armed conflict or not.

4. We invaded. We're occupiers.
The "insurgents" are just patriots trying to get the occupiers out of their country. If someone had done to the United States what we did in Iraq, you bet I'd be an "insurgent."

They're not "IEDs". They're just fucking bombs.

It's nothing but more of this damn White House's doublespeak that the "press" so readily adopts and holds to its bosom like a beloved child.

Like then-Attorney General Ashcroft's term, "person of interest." It's a heinous phrase, used to condemn someone on whom they don't have enough evidence to charge - so he's not a suspect - but still want to pressure. Against everything in our criminal code, everything our Constitution stands for.

Like "pro-life," which is such utter horseshit, but brilliant in its conception and execution. Be default, people who are "pro-choice" are deemed to be "anti-life," and no one has ever taken the time to punch that shibboleth in the face, just as it deserves.

Language is power. People need to snap out of it and understand that instead of simply swallowing and then regurgitating what they're told by people in power.
