They are all "puzzled" and confused. The Scotty they knew would have never violated Omerta.
Because that's what it all comes down to. Once one lies down with the dogs and has the fleas, few complain. Most just buy a lot of flea powder (because usually now they can afford it) and the itching (of conscience) is a small price to pay.
Scotty is unusual. I think he would have to shelved in the same area as John Dean in a bookstore.
