The right-wing Politico cesspool-Glenn Greenwald

The right-wing Politico cesspool

Politico reporter Mike Allen, formerly of The Washington Post and Time, appeared yesterday on the show of right-wing radio host Mike Gallagher. The two of them guffawed together at how absurd are Scott McCellan's claims that the media was "deferential" to the Bush administration and then Allen said this:

ALLEN: And indeed, Scott does adopt the vocabulary, rhetoric of the left wing haters. Can you believe it in here he says the White House press corps was too deferential to the administration?

Think Progress has the audio, which makes even clearer how eager Mike Allen was "to adopt the vocabulary, rhetoric" of the right-wing operatives which Politico exists to serve. Actually, not even Karl Rove -- who gave Allen and comrades their marching orders earlier this week when he said during an interview with Sean Hannity that McClellan "sounds like a left-wing blogger" -- goes so far as to refer to those critical of the media's war coverage as "left wing haters." But Politico "reporter" Mike Allen does.

>>>>>>>>snip

When he referred to "left wing haters," he just meant "critics" of the administration -- war "skeptics" and Bush "opponents." That's all synonymous in his mind with "left wing haters" -- interchangeable terms. Thus: "you can call them 'critics' or 'skeptics' or 'opponents'" -- or the phrase I used: "left wing haters" -- "or whatever." So according to Politico's chief political correspondent (the former White House Correspondent of Time), administration critics are, by definition, "left wing haters."

Allen shared his complaint about "left wing haters" while chatting agreeably with Mike Gallagher, who previously said this:

I think we should round up all of these folks. Round up Joy Behar. Round up Matt Damon, who last night on MSNBC attacked George Bush and Dick Cheney. Round up Olbermann. Take the whole bunch of them and put them in a detention camp until this war is over because they're a bunch of traitors.

Allen and Gallagher can't stand those left wing haters.>>>>>>snip

5. Yet DUers take Politico as the Gospel Truth. .. I remember when
they showed up at the ABC presidential debate and were touted
as major bloggers. I hadn't heard of them until that debate.

2. Gallagher's latest article over at Townhall is a piece of work too
But it's kind of sad really. Gallagher can't move past 2003/4. He doesn't realize how badly President Bush has screwed up or how deep the resentment against the war is. Instead he imagines an America that is still behind President Bush minus a few mal-contents that need to be locked up.

Maybe he should go to a sanitarium for a while.

3. In ONE YEAR
We should round up all of these folks. Round up Rush Limbaugh. Round up Bill O'Reilly. Round up Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter and Karen Hughes. Round up every vehicle that has a hate filled message for the Democrats who run our country. Anyone who says a word disagreeing with the Democratic President's views. Round up every outspoken opponent to our Democratic Congress' actions. Take the whole bunch of them and put them in a detention camp until their selfish effect on our country has been neutralized and the hate mongering is over because they're a bunch of traitors.

Oh but that won't ever be heard, will it? First of all few of us are that disgusting and even if you found someone to point out the obvious rebuttal to their unpatriotic hate, I'm sure Mike Gallagher and his ilk prevent that kind of response from being aired. 'Fraidy cats.

6. Could you link to that quote if that is what it is?
I find it unlikely that any reputable Democrat made such a statement..

11. I was spoofing on the bolded quote in the OP

Sorry that wasn't clearer. I assumed the italics and the obvious copying of the words used would show that so I didn't use quotation marks.

I should have used a sarcasm smilie and I will try to remember to do that in the future.

4. Dissent (against a president with an R behind his name) = treason
Edited on Fri May-30-08 09:06 AM by LynnTheDem
So say the rightwingnuts.

I myself prefer to go with what truly great patriots said, such as;

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
-Teddy Roosevelt May 7, 1918

17. Here's a fuller quote of the above:
"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly as necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else." - Copy to Clipboard

8. By the way,
Greenwald is a treasure. Along with Digby, he offers the most measured and insightful analysis or our media, journalists, and malfunctioning political discourse. Some of the folk's that comment on his blog are the most astute folks out there.

9. How did Politico get so popular so fast anyway?
In just under two years EVERY news organization has started using them as a source. They either have deep pockets or heavy influence.

10. Deep rightwing pockets
http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2007/05/04/politico_funding/

"So the President and CEO of The Politico, Frederick Ryan, is also the Board Chairman for the Reagan Library. And that makes sense, because Ryan is a long-time, hard-core Reaganite. From a November 1987 Press Release"

Please read the rest. Yet another great exposé from Greenwald.
