Condoleezza Rice enlists in Kiss Army fan club

By MATTHEW LEE
Associated Press Writer

STOCKHOLM, Sweden --The Kiss Army fan club has an enthusiastic new recruit: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Rice was in the Swedish capital Thursday for an international conference on Iraq. Kiss had a sold-out concert to play Friday.

"I was thrilled," Rice said of her late-night encounter with Kiss frontman Gene Simmons and bandmates Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer in the executive lounge of the Sheraton Hotel where they signed autographs and handed out backstage passes and T-shirts to her staff.

"It was really fun to meet Kiss and Gene Simmons," she told reporters, noting that they seemed well-informed about current events. The band had asked if she could stop by after she finished dinner with the Swedish foreign minister and Rice readily agreed, she said.

Rice, a classically trained pianist, said she has eclectic musical tastes ranging from Beethoven to Bruce Springsteen.

Hard rockers such as Kiss are included in the mix, and Rice said her favorite Kiss tune is "Rock and Roll All Nite."

But, Rice conceded, she has never seen the band in concert.

5. Condi's impressed with Kiss's knowledge of current events, huh?
I'm thinking that's not a high bar to leap.

7. Gene Simmons regularly speaks out about Israel
Of course, it's the extremely-pro-Israel-is-always-right-and-everyone-else-are-terrorists-even-though-Israel-bombs-too variety.

9. Who was it, during a TV interview when they first were coming out, that joked
"Wouldn't it be a surprise if he turned out to be a nice Jewish boy from the Bronx?"

10. I was a mere baby when KISS first burst on the scene, so I don't
know.

Not sure he's from the Bronx. I know he's not nice, but he is Jewish.

:)

12. Both Gene and Paul are Jewish. Gene was born in Israel.
Gene's father was a Mossad Agent.

15. Yes they do. But does Condi know her Kisstory?
I think Condi should be allowed to join the KISS Army. Right after she forces Bush & Cheney to listen to KISS until ears bleed.

13. It's jokingly said that Noriega was captured by the KISS Army.
They blasted Rock & roll all night outside the Papal Nuncio until Noriega couldn't take it anymore and surrendered. I have seen video of soldiers standing on tanks playing guitar on their M-16's durring the stand off.

14. For those that don't know. How the KISS Army got it's name.
Edited on Fri May-30-08 12:44 PM by Wizard777
When Kiss first emerged many radio stations refused to play their music. Then some fans in Detroit invaded a radio station and forced the DJ to play nothing but KISS. When the band heard about this. Paul Stanley said, Damn, we don't have a fan club. We have an Army and it stuck. That was the birth of the KISS Army.

16. I saw one of their first shows at the Coventry in NY.
It was outrageous for the times. I remember thinking. This is either their first and last show or these guys will be bigger than the Beatles. But their is just no middle ground for them.
