http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080531/NEWS/80531004A man who was caught with valuables believed to be taken from the Parkersburg tornado was arrested Friday and charged with fourth-degree theft, the Butler County Sheriff announced.
Lloyd Bonjour, 68, of the north-central Iowa town of Dows, allegedly had several items taken from destroyed homes in the hardest-hit area of Parkersburg. The items included furniture, a computer monitor and a television, authorities said.
Butler County was declared a federal disaster area shortly after the May 25 twister ripped through Parkersburg and New Hartford, killing seven and destroying hundreds of homes and businesses. Residents have spent the past week picking through the wreckage.
"These type of activities, to include theft, and any attempt to scam residents will not be tolerated," Butler County Sheriff Jason Johnson said in a statement. "Butler County has a zero-tolerance policy toward any of these activities."
