Chelsea Clinton's Vineyard Wedding
Edited on Fri May-01-09 07:03 PM by Beacool

Buzz is building that Chelsea Clinton will get married on Martha's Vineyard this summer. Sources on the island tell us that the former first daughter will wed Marc Mezvinsky at Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen's home in Chilmark this August. The wedding coincides with President Barack Obama's rumored vacation on the Vineyard. To prepare for the A-list affair, Danson and Steenburgen are said to be doing extensive renovations on their property. Vineyard caterer Jaime Hamlin, who helped throw one of Bill Clinton's birthday parties on the island, said there's plenty of local excitement about Chelsea's upcoming nuptials, especially among vendors who hope to get some business from the Clintons. "They haven't called me yet," Hamlin joked. "Maybe they will." The young Clinton met Mezvinsky years ago through her parents. He is the son of former Iowa congressman Edward Mezvinsky, and like Chelsea, studied at Stanford University in California.

10. She has her mom's eyes.
Delft porcelain blue. But, what's more important, she's a really nice girl who adores her parents and they adore her in return.

21. Yeah, definitely her mom's eyes...
I can look at her one way and see so much of her mom, and another way and see so much of her dad. That's how I am with my parents too.

Anyway, she's a pretty young woman, as well as smart.

17. I know.
I still remember the shy little girl with the frizzy hair, clinging to her dad and mom's hand. She has turned into a beautiful young woman, both inside and out.

May they both be very happy.

35. I have two friends
with these nice, easy to say and spell last names. Who married guys with impossibly long and difficult names - and took their husbands' names.

I suggested what you suggested here to my husband years and years ago. He looked at me like I was nuts. I said: that's exactly how I feel about it.

Needless to say, he's always defended my decision to keep my own name! (LOL, which only one non-family person in my life has pronounced properly at the first try! But it's mine.)

15. Yeah, maybe she'll be like her mom and keep her maiden name.
Hillary initially kept her name because she liked it better, she only added the Clinton when keeping her maiden name became a political liability for Bill.

40. It was Arkansas in the 80s.
No offense to anyone from the state, but not exactly the most progressive people (at least back then). Many disliked her because she refused to conform to the cookie cutter look of the dutiful politician's wife with big blonde hair, too much makeup and overly concerned with fashion. She was also not from the South and they never let her forget it.

41. Yeah, I know. Believe me, even here in CT
even now in 09, I still run into people - like office staff in some medical office - who question me. As if I have to explain myself to them!

At the hospital where I had my first son, some idiot decided that because we had different last names, they'd better call social services to tell me all my rights. This despite our paperwork, which clearly said we were married. Though we filled everything out fully, when we got the birth cert, my husband's information was completely missing. Probably the same idiot.

We had to get to city hall in that town and get it all fixed. They still hyphenated his middle names, though we hadn't put that down. Apparently the same idiot couldn't deal with someone having two middle names, either.

44. I know what you mean.
I was married once, but never changed my name. I don't believe in it. Why should professional women have to add some man's name? I'm glad I didn't because it saved me a lot of headaches after the divorce. I didn't have to fill all the paperwork to change back to my own name. I'm also not fascinated by the traditional engagement ring. My ring was a nice sapphire (because I like them) surrounded by diamonds (my birthstone). I can still wear the ring and no one is the wiser.

One of my friends also didn't change her name because she didn't like her husband's last name (a hard to pronounce Polish name). Although her son has his father's last name.

45. My kids have my husband's last name, but mine is one of their
middle names - so they'll carry both with them.

The hyphenating thing seemed to me to carry a real risk of turning into a Monty Python skit after a generation or so!

He was one of the people on the panel at the Watergate hearings and his line of questioning was what finally push Nixon over the line - tax evasion.

43. And here I was nattering about a proud name.
It's always hard to believe a respected adult can be such a fool. But I was a grand juror once and I learned how common it is.

Two children of scandal find each other. I'm very happy for them.

Chelsea let it slip last year that Hillary is pining for grandchildren. Both Clintons love children. Unfortunately, due to her health, they could only have Chelsea.

27. I don't recall her mentioning it in her book.
Although I think that Carl Bernstein does mention it in his. Hillary had endometriosis severely enough to make it hard for her to get pregnant. They had been married 5 years before she could conceive. The doctors told her not to attempt to have any more children because it could endanger her life and that of the baby.
