Deconstructing the RW meme that private-sector companies are more efficient than the government
I keep hearing this shit over and over from Repuke politicians: we should privatize everything because The Private Sector Is More Efficient Than The Government.

Maybe a hundred years ago that was true, but I don't think it is anymore. I've been dealing with a lot of government agencies in the last few weeks, primarily the infamous DMV. I've dealt with DMV offices in Texas and in North Carolina. In and out, quick and easy.

I've also been dealing with private businesses. OMG the bureaucracy! The most inefficient entity in America is a private business that owes you money.

2. Profiteering.
At the core of everything the GOP stands for is
a self-serving attempt to justify their own greed.

3. isn't this often the mantra of people whose families got rich off government
contracts? I mean, the ones where there was little oversight and lots of overruns?

The ones which the Repugs "denounced"?

4. You have to wonder
What kills me is that despite all evidence, these folks whine about how much something like socialized medicine will cost us ("TAXES WILL GO UP!") yet every nation on earth spends far less than we do on health care.

"BUT WE'LL HAVE WORSE SERVICE AND LONG LINES! PEOPLE COME HERE FOR MEDICAL CARE!!1!"

:sigh:

Actually, most people I know who live in civilized nations (ie: with universal health care of some sort), love it and would not trade it for anything. The vast majority of people do not come to the US for operations, only the rich - and frankly, they will always have some option to continue to get high-end care wherever they want. As for the quality of care, why then do those nations also tend to have higher quality of life, longer lifespans, lower infant mortality rates, etc. if their care is so awful?

It amazes me that so many people still buy into the McCarthysist "red scare" propaganda sold to them by the very companies which are ripping them off. They've been told to be afraid of "socialist" health care (as if somehow that one thing would suddenly turn the US into a pseudo-Communist dictatorship or something...), and that message has been bankrolled with pharmaceutical ads and overpriced insurance. It would be funny were it not so serious.
