That Hyperbaric Chamber Explosion in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea

A 62-year-old Italian visitor badly burned in an explosion at a Lauderdale-by-the-Sea clinic died Saturday morning. Her 4-year-old grandson, who was with her in the private clinic's oxygen chamber, remains in critical condition.

The cause of Friday's explosion at the Ocean Hyperbaric Oxygen Neurologic Center is under investigation, officials said. Three of the hyperbaric chambers were taken as evidence and will be looked over by experts, Broward Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Jachles said.

What this report doesn't say is that the grandmother and kid came from a very poor village in Italy and people raised the $100,000 for him to receive treatment. His parents brought them but headed home for his mother to give birth to a baby. His father returned today. Florida news says it is highly unlikely this kid will make it.

The group before us were kids with cerebral palsy many of them learned to walk while we were there. One four year old learned to walk and pedal a tricycle. The group after us were stroke and other traumatic brain injury patients.

Pressure is increased and then oxygen is piped in. There were lights and a sound system inside and a TV we could watch through a "porthole"

They had waffle rubber on the floor so that if someone dropped something metal it would not spark.
