Do you remember all those lies Cheney told leading up to the Iraq invasion?
I remember two or three. I remember that he said Saddam was meeting with al Qaeda in Iraq and that some of his people met with al Qaeda in Prague or some foreign city? I recall that he said Saddam was close to a nuclear weapon, even after the yellow cake story was dis-proved. He told bunches of lies that nobody else told. Where did he get that information?

Most likely, he got that information from the prisoners that he was ordering to be tortured? When tortured, prisoners will say anything to stop the pain and that is what they did. Unfortunately, Dick Cheney passed that information to the American people as if it were some documented intelligence. And we invaded...

1. I think that it has been well established that most of the poor quality intelligence
that Cheney put such high stock into was the result of paying disreputable Iraqi emigrants who were trying to cash in on their new situation. The word got out that the administration was paying big for any stupid story.

We were the ones being torutred having to listen to it.

2. He didn't need bad intelligence; he just made stuff up.
Sometimes I feel like the only person who knew at the time that Cheney, Bush and Powell were all telling big whoppers of lies to everybody, simply to push for an invasion.

4. That's what I think.
Cheney and his friends in the intelligence community made it all up. They didn't need to torture anyone to come up with that bullshit.

6. They were planning to invade & occupy Iraq way back in the mid-late 90's
9/11 gave them their chance to "go massive" on the push & lies.

7. Considering how much time he spent visiting the CIA,
Edited on Sun May-03-09 11:48 PM by Gregorian
I would guess that he was picking their information, and either finding things that could be combined without straying too far from the truth, and or corroborating with the CIA to create common stories. Perhaps he had "sources" that the CIA didn't have, that he could then falsely share with the CIA, in order to combine and make up stories that even the CIA would tend to believe. Stories that nobody could confirm nor deny, therefore paving the way to an attack on a sovereign country like Iraq.

I'm thinking about the Cheney assassination hit squad story. Now that group, could have been non-CIA. And there could have been other groups. Like the Italian Niger embassy letterhead robbery. I don't recall, but was that CIA? I don't think so. Cheney could have been producing false information...well, you guys have already said it. Just making stuff up. But more than that. Actually having fake information. I mean, having a reality to it. Creating fake real situations that could then be called "factual". After all, the guy's a billionaire. He wouldn't even need revenue in order to fund a rather complex info squad.

Aha. A quick Google turned this up-

Information developed by Italian investigators indicates that the documents were produced in Italy with the connivance of the Italian intelligence service. It also reveals that the introduction of the documents into the American intelligence stream was facilitated by Undersecretary of Defense Doug Feith’s Office of Special Plans (OSP), a parallel intelligence center set up in the Pentagon to develop alternative sources of information in support of war against Iraq.

From this-

OK, what I'm seeing is Cheney had friends of a friend possibly working with ex-CIA friends, in order to create these stories. The key being ex-CIA. This is something I had not given much thought to. These Iran-Contra guys, or others, who have retired, but who still have the knowledge and connections.

11. The OSP was set up to give Cheney what he wanted.
We forget about Rumsfeld lately but that pair hijacked Junior's presidency very early on. And every POS that went out over the airwaves first crossed Doug Feith's desk.

13. I find it so difficult to wrap my brain around all of the details. OSP.
Unless one dedicates a bunch of their life to studying the Bush crime organization, it is rather difficult to stay abreast of every facet, and detail. I just skim the forum and read articles. That obviously isn't enough. And I don't even have a job. No wonder so many people are duped. I imagine there were other groups that were not known. I know next to nothing about the OSP. And obviously there were secret jobs that no one has heard about.

This is sickening me. And what is worse is the lack of action. Attacking Iraq should have resulted in immediate impeachment.
