Intentionally Asleep

Busy worker bees buzzing about their business
Drones driving us into doldrums
Queens fat and drunk on nectar
Gorged from the heavy heart of the hive

Too engaged to engage
Surrounded and nourished by a world forgot
Intentionally asleep
Knowledge sacrificed for productivity
An entire race conditioned to passivity

Where went the magic from the world?
The time we listened to the trees
And animals came to us in dreams
And taught us how life is supposed to be
Tenants, not landlords of our home
Only owners if we live in harmony

Whole tribes become tyrants now
Slaughter for stakes they don’t have
Murder in the name of Gods
Too fanatic to see
That they make their Mother bleed
When they act counter intuitively

Common sense lacking among the Queens
The hive plunders on, scouring all it sees
More locust than bees; truth be told
The Queens don’t seem to know
That as they command us to end their world
So too their thrones will go.

But the nectar must continue to flow
Even when there isn’t a flower to grow
So both Queens and drones
Move their world along
Quotas and schedules to keep
Intentionally asleep
