Frivolous lawsuit, anyone?
This popped up in this morning's Courthouse News. Filed by Attorney Pro Se. Seems that Mr. Se gets all the funnest lawsuits:

U.S. District Court, District of Oregon, Civil No. CV 09-6118

Jonathan Riches dba Bernard Madoff
v.
LexisNexis Group dba Matthew Bender & Co. Inc.; West Group; West's Federal Reporter, Third Series; National Reporter System; Criminal Law Reporter; Bureau of National Affairs Inc.; Congressional Quarterly Inc.; Federal Register; CQ Press; Clack's Law Dictionary; Bryan Garner; Claudia Driggins-Henley; Barbara Rogers; Charles Brownson; Anna Brownson; Staff Directories Ltd.; Robert Merry; John Jenkins; Betty Goldman; Bertha Breuard; John Jenkins; Betty Goldman; Bertha Breuard; Joyce Kachergis; Brent Newton; Guy Cuomo; Jason Trowbridge; Justia.com

Action styled: Civil rights action. If it weren't for the words "wire fraud" "identity theft" and "computer hacking," which the defendants published in their legal dictionaries, the plaintiff would not have spent 125 months in jail.

Yeah, if the crime hadn't been defined in law dictionaries, this guy never would have been charged with a crime! At the risk of repeating myself,

1. Jonathan Riches is a serial filer of frivilous lawsuits.

Wikipedia mentions a suit he's brought against Madoff, I'm not sure if it's the same one or if he has two suits against Madoff.

He claims to have met Madoff on eharmony.com in 2001.

2. Oh goody, he's found the address for the Oregon courts now
I'll have to remember his name from now on. I wondered why he claimed to be "doing business as" Bernie Madoff. It's almost (almost) worth the PACER expense to go take a peek at the lawsuit. I wonder if he submitted it in red crayon?

3. Oh, I didn't read that properly.
I didn't realizee that dba means "doing business as". So the suit you posted isn't against Madoff, it's against all of those other parties. I read it wrong and thought that it was Riches suing Madoff. So this is a different suit than the one on Wikipedia.

So Riches met Madoff on eHarmony.com in 2001 and he now somehow is Madoff.
