Fox Nation Website graphic points Rifle at Obama

This was screencapped today from Fox Nation, Fox News' month old conservative opinion site, which is already being pegged for something racial today. Notice anything?

Fox Nation's "Statement of Purpose" notes that the Website "is for those opposed to intolerance," but since it also is against "attempts to monopolize opinion or suppress freedom of thought expression," then I guess they're not being too inconsistent.

Tip of the hat to a Raw reader who sent this in to us.

"Yawn" is either disturbingly naive or downright ignorant as a respomse.

Can't it be both naive and ignorant?

23. I think most people are more media-lierate than that, these days.
This is extremely unsophisticated compared to the way content is generally presented on TV or the Internet or in other areas of graphic design. I'm more inclined to suspect a lazy uncreative intern than any kind of attempt to send a message.

49. My point is in my first message above: I doubt there was any ill intent.
If there's a picture of Obama opposite a car, does that mean we have to worry about people trying to drive cars into Obama as a result? No.

52. Then I'm not sure what your point is.
The absolute best face you can put on this is that it's one of the more execrable lapses of judgement in some time (and the fact that this is Fox, makes it tough for me to cut them that kind of slack). The only other take is that this is an oblique threat against a President whom Fox has made no secret of their disdain for. Your call.

55. Yeah, really!
Like, for instance, maybe an internet message board for Democrats that had quarterly fundraisers that measured progress towards the fundraising goal by showing a clenched fist in a boxing glove taking aim at a sitting president, and finally punching him in the face when the goal was reached! Can you imagine the outrage that would have ensued?

19. Does Fox News actually want someone to assassinate Obama?
This is a serious question, sure during the tea party protests and their broadcasts they always say "NON violent protests" but isn't that just a way to protect themselves?

Aren't they inciting now? now that picture was not an accident, and they are going to get worse and worse, their commentators always get so emotional, its like they want some nutjob to go do something.

I really think people are playing this picture down, IMHO its not just the usual bias Faux stunt, it goes beyond that.

They have to be called up on it, and not just on sites like newshounds, or rawstory, could someone please send this picture to all mainstream/independent media and also to people in congress, I know they have taken it down now but they cannot be allowed to get away with it.

47. Assume Fox to be completely amoral -- would they want an assassination?
Assume them to be amoral, and willing to provoke an assassination if that would advance their goals. Assume them, however, to have some modicum of intelligence in assessing likely consequences.

Obama's death wouldn't make McCain the President. It would put Biden in office, and he'd call on Congress to pass Obama's program, as the most fitting memorial to our martyred leader. It would be like the climate in which LBJ was able to push through JFK's Civil Rights Act, which might not have been enacted otherwise.

I understand the outrage of people who consider it deliberate. I'm certainly not saying that Fox would never be that evil. It just seems like a more plausible explanation is that these graphics were posted at different times, and/or by different people, or by one harried staffer who was busy getting the trees in place and didn't happen to notice the forest.
