Someone compared Obama to Hitler - what do I say?
This was the post in a forum I sometimes visit:

Graduates today need to understand the slippery slope towards tyranny that we are now sliding down. Obama 2009 is very similar to Hitler 1933.

I am so sick and tired of the rightwing rhetoric and paranoia. Do I leave him to be an idiot, or do I dazzle him with facts?

Either they are a paranoid extremist who thinks ALL government is evil; or they are trying to disguise what is basically racism. Either way, once they start the Godwinizing, it means they're unlikely to be amenable to reason.

...you would say anytime anyone compares Hitler to any leader - You sir\madam, are a moron.

Hitler was heads and shoulders above all crazy ass world leaders. Combine that with a depressed population and vengeful military machine and you have a world war.

There has been nothing since to really compare. Even the comparisons of Hitler and Bush were out of line...other than they are both war criminals.

Besides, given the deeply seated emotional nature of this type of propaganda, there really isn't anything that can be said that will bring about such a drastic mental shift in another. People only snap out of it when the unreality they abide clashes violently with them on a personal level, and they are forced to slowly come to terms with their new mindset.
