regularly here. no one is suggesting that people who enter into this kind of thing, don't have the right to do so. Who we are as a culture interests me. If it's of no interest to you, fine, but don't try and tell me what I should think, if you please.

And I still think it should be of no concern to any of us - as long as they do not try to impose their personal rules on us.

According to the article, the book "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" is the "bible" of the Supervirginity movement--no physical contact at all until marriage.

You know that if the fundies are right now trying to keep people from having sex until marriage, five years down the road they'll be pushing the idea of not kissing until marriage, and ten years from now they'll be back to pushing arranged marriages. Naturally, the ultimate goal is for girls to sing this marriage song...

Oldest kid got married in a sort of arranged marriage and they did the fully-chaperoned no-kissing-until-marriage thing. Then, of course, they go on to have a couple of dozen kids.

Prove it. She can't prove she never kissed anyone. All we got is her word for it. I don't buy it. Did she kiss her parents good night? Did she kiss her best friend hello? Does it count? Does giving a BJ count? It's just another hypocrisy from the religiously insane.

I guess it teaches people to expect very little in that area and so they'll focus their energies in other areas. Like having plenty of children. Either that, or once the initial dulcet dewy blanket of newness wears off, people end up living lives of lonely dissatisfaction. Or both. It's certainly a way of getting people to marry young.

It seems like this does enforce getting to know the person instead of their body so chances are good they have more drawing them together than physical attraction. I would think that is the goal insuring that all of the other things that actually make a marriage work are there.

And if they are both total virgins, how would they have any expectations in that area? Two people bad at sex just have that much more to work on. I suppose there could be some innate incompatibility, but in most cases how would you know something is bad with nothing to compare it to?

I think not even being able to do a little necking would make it even easier (especially for young ones) to mistake "ants in the pants" for love.

I think it is ridiculous for anyone to get married with under two years of dating that person under their belt. Having sex or not. But even still if you have to spend whatever amount of time strictly getting to know someone there is a better chance you are building on something stronger. Two 20 year olds who have sex every time there is a pause in the conversation might not actually have all that much in common except liking how the other makes them physically feel.

Living in Oklahoma I don't see a lot of celibacy, but I do see a lot of guilt over it and a rush to get God's approval. I think that is more of a problematic issue in this deal than people who choose to not kiss until the wedding.

Though, a couple kids who are having sex may get tired of each other once the sex loses its novelty (and even at 20 that can happen). I just hope it happens before they've gotten married and/or dragged a baby into the mix.

This doesn't have the creepyness of the group that does the thing where they pledge themselves to their fathers until they get married though.

Maybe this is too much information, but I first kissed when I was 19. Not too young from the girl in this story. But that was another country, another society.

The guy being 35 and kissing first time at the alter is a little...weird but I would say commendable. If they take the decision themselves and no one is forcing them.... good for them.

I've never been to the point where I was intimately kissing a female that did not turn into a sexual relationship. So, I guess it's the old "gateway" argument, that one things leads to another.

I wouldn't marry someone without living with them, first, for a couple of years, so that we could see each other at our worst, like if one of us was ill, for instance.

I find it rather exasperating that people can not realize that young people are in a situation that demands a prolonged period of education long past the age of sexual maturity.

It would seem to me that if these people who are so concerned with complying with God's will they would arrange for the marriage of their children shortly after puberty rather than imposing an unnatural prolonged period of abstinence on their children that has proven to be impractical.

This of course would be as ridiculous as their solution to the problem. The real solution is teaching responsible sexual behavior that is in keeping with the young people's situation.

My roommate from college did this with her husband. They didn't kiss till the wedding. I still think it was nuts. He also made sure that every friend she had was a "Christian", (after all, she might be led astray.) As a result, we haven't seen each other in twenty years.

It's really too bad that these folks can't find something else to focus their minds on.

Might I also state that a 35-year-old male who's never touched a woman has a much bigger problem than "waiting"?
