Bail is $50,000 for man accused in dog's death
BY JUDITH NYGREN
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

The Omaha man accused of killing his neighbors' barking dog must come up with $5,000 to be released from jail.

A judge today set bail for 57-year-old Kevin Cleavenger at $50,000, of which he must pay 10 percent.

Cleavenger is charged with intentional cruelty to an animal, a felony, in the beating of a 4-year-old rat terrier named Pompoo. The dog was the pet of a neighbor couple, Michael and Catalina Snyder.

Investigators have said Cleavenger became frustrated with the dog, who was tethered and barking outside an apartment near 75th and Howard Streets.

2. GREAT! I hope this story hits the headlines everywhere!
In my experience, people who beat animals have no problem doing the same damn thing to people too!

4. Stupid thing to do
having said that, he just didn't kill the dog for no reason.

I love dogs, but I can't stand terriers. Their non-stop yapping and general hyperactivity is annoying as hell.

5. He did kill that dog for no reason. A barking dog doesn't deserve too be beat to death.
Jesus!

6. No dog deserves to be beaten to death
but I can understand how a dog that barks all day and night could drive some people crazy.
some of these dog owners need to be more considerate of their neighbors.

9. Yeah, let's just beat anything we don't like...
...and, oh yeah, a tied up dog can really fight back.

11. The original post 10 days ago stated no previous complaints...

No calls to the Police or Humane Society at this address ever for a barking dog. There was a case in Bellevue a few months back. Guilty of a felony for killing a rat terrier with a golf club after an oral fight with his wife. Domestic abuse takes many shapes. But it is abuse.

Did this guy even think to complain before taking a life that can feel pain? Judge and jury rule is not the American way.

8. I hope the pet owners are cited too.
They left the poor dog tied up outside and neglected it.

10. While those who tortured people to death in Gitmo and Iraq walk free
Don't get me wrong...the dog killer deserves the consequences.

Which apparently came swiftly.

Just can't help but notice the comparison, ya know?
