Health Insurers Try to Scuttle Obama Plan

Insurance Industry Chief Moves to Head Off Government Competitor
By TEDDY DAVIS and FERDOUS AL-FARUQUE
May 6, 2009

In an effort to scuttle a major part of President Obama's plan to reform the nation's health-care system, private health insurers are taking the unusual step of asking Congress to increase regulation of their industry.

"We are not asking people to trust us," Karen Ignagni, the president of America's Health Insurance Plans, told a key congressional panel on Tuesday. "We are asking people to trust government."

The insurance industry's surprising request for more government rules and oversight is its latest attempt to convince Congress to reject a main component of Obama's health care reform plan -- a government run insurance program that would be open to all Americans under 65 and compete with private insurance plans.

3. I am on the inside of this. These sob's want to shut down the debate.
They do not want to talk about universal healthcare or 'single payer' concepts. The insurance industry will not give up without
blood on the battlefield. They DO NOT CARE about people. They only care about profits even though one of their slogans is 'We are in the business of caring'.
The People must demand universal care.

5. The Obama Administration should just tell them what they told the repubs...
"We have tried it your way and it hasn't worked so it is time to try something different.'

7. Obama should insist that they produce records of health care they DENIED for the last year.
COMPLETE lists per company.

And THEN require them to go through, case per case, and explain EXACTLY why they were denied. That ought to keep them crapping their pants for months.

Insurance companies are the CANCER of the American healthcare industry. Cut them OUT like a tumor - you'll see people getting well almost immediately.

8. Too Late, Guys
You've had your run. Time to downsize, retire your executives, and tell the wealthy shareholders that the lucrative business of denying coverage and benefits is all over.

9. Odd, they usually complain that any government regulation and oversight increases costs

they're up to something and unfortunately they own enough members of Congress that whatever it is they're really after, they'll get. - And somehow it will all be packaged as "reform" because they think we are that stupid.

We can't afford a trillion dollar give-away the health insurance mafia.

We will never be able to afford comprehensive healthcare for all Americans until we get rid of the 31% "administrative" costs of the bloodsuckers in the insurance industry.

What better argument for single-payer tax-funded public health care could one ask for?

13. Ohhhh poor babies. Bwahahaha!
What needs to happen is BOTH - the enaction of a public/Medicare gov't provided system AND increased regulation of the private insurers so that:

1. They are forced to COMPETE with a more cost-effective, efficient system
2. They are heavily regulated.

One-two punch - Wham! Bam!

Done.

15. I thought business liked competition so much.
 Why should they be afraid of a cheaper plan in the marketplace? Let the race to the bottom begin! Let's see how THEY like it.
