Cleveland: 50 year-old man begging for job at McDonalds
Just stopped at a McDonald's to grab a cup of java and overheard something that made me very sad.

A 50-year old man begging for a job there. The older lady working there said they weren't accepting applications at this time and asked him where he worked.

He went on to say that he worked for RTA (public transportation) as a bus driver and got laid off. The lady said that she assumed that his job would be safe. He replied "With so many people out of work, they're not taking buses anywhere...they have nowhere to go."

Times are bad....real bad and there is no light at the end of the tunnel....especially here in Cleveland. :(

11. WE HAVE ALL BECOME SLAVES!
The be-all and end-all of existence has become EARN MONEY!

If anyone asked this man what he would happily do IF he had a choice...

5. Ford used to run 3 full shifts a day..... then came the Republican Banksters
Edited on Fri May-08-09 10:21 AM by lib2DaBone
I used to work at the Ford Cleveland Engine Plant in the 70's. We ran 3 full shifts 7 days a week.

I drove a new car every 2 years, took vacations, bought a boat and still had money left over. There were jobs everywhere.. all you had to do is apply. Cleveland was a great town.... I have many fond memories of Sunday afternoons in September..spent on the lakefront.. way up in the balcony of the old stadium watching the Cleveland Browns while listening to Gib Shanley do play-by-play.

Then came Reaganomics. The jobs started going to China and Mexico. The Ford Plant dropped down to 2 shifts and then to 1 shift. I had to leave to find work.

What's amazing, after the jobs left town, no one complained. Everyone went back to school and re-trained for computers and IT. Then Daddy Bush came along and shipped those jobs to India.. yet no one complained. (This was no accident.. the government flat out lied to the people)

Then Junior Bush came along and picked the carcass clean.. he and the Banksters ran the economy into a brick wall at full speed.... yet the workers didn't complain.

I don't get... no point I suppose.. just reminiscing about the old days, when American workers were treated as an asset (humans) and encouraged to stay with a company... and we built quality goods.

my grandfather was a steel worker and helped build the Terminal Tower Building in the center of the photo.

7. if you boil
a frog in water starting on a low temp and gradually raise it, it won't complain or try to escape either.

we need to reclaim our manufacturing and producing jobs, not jobs that produce nothing like finance.

I may draw on your recollections of "life in a Union Town", for use in anther venue

13. who needs quality built goods
we need big profit as fast as possible. Chasing paper, making money IS ALL THAT IS IMPORTANT IN THE USA I GREW UP IN. I was born in Chicago in 1979. I honestly can say that I have learned that QUALITY IS NOT IMPORTANT, WORKERS ARE DISPENSABLE, and that THE BOTTOM LINE IS ALL THAT COUNTS! That is why you shut down and delocalize factories that are making millions in profits, BECAUSE THEY CAN MAKE A FEW MORE MILLION IN A COUNTRY WITH NO UNIONS, WORKERS RIGHTS, POLLUTION LAWS, or LABOR SAFTEY LAWS! This is why I never had a good answer when I called out my gangster students when I taught for a year in Chicago. They said things like "aint nothing important but money" and I totally knew where they were coming from, THE MODERN USA! I wish I could have known the USA you knew when you were younger.

12. This is the goal of the corporatists -- and they are winning
They want us fighting each other over shit jobs with no benefits -- and they want us blaming "illegal immigrants" and not the corporations and their whores in office.
