Tomorrow is the day your mail carrier will be picking up food for food pantries
Edited on Fri May-08-09 12:21 PM by Robbien
Saturday May 9th. Put your food donations out by your mailbox early in the morning (or late tonight).

The national postal worker food drive is this Saturday where your mail carrier will be picking up non-perishable food items at homes all across the country. Items such as all un-expired canned food, juice, rice, cereal, etc.

No items in glass containers please.

3. Hard to do wtih the beehive mailboxes
and the teens in the neighborhood who seek to destroy most things around.

Guess I could put some canned goods in my mailbox with a note...?
My box is ont he bottom, so it doesn't get hot right now.

6. Or leave a note for the mail carrier to ring your bell for food drive donation pickup

and you can keep the food in a bag inside ready to hand over.

8. Our food donation is ready for pick-up
The mail carriers have done this for several years now....it is such a wonderful idea.

For all of you who want to do something for the many Americans who are in need right now, this is it.

( For those of us who are doing OK during this economic downturn, this is how we can help those who aren't.)

And it will make you feel good!:loveya: :grouphug: :loveya:

18. Not sure
If you got one of their cards, then for sure you can put out your donation. To make sure it may be a good idea to call your local post office and see if your carrier is picking up at your location.

14. I'll have to make a monetary donation instead this year.
It's supposed to be 104 degrees here tomorrow and my mailbox is out in full sunlight. I'd be worried about any cans I'd put out and any other food losing nutrients sitting in those conditions.

15. I've got stuff ready to go first thing in the morning.
I did this last year as well, and the postman didn't pick it up! This year, I'm putting a note on the mailbox reminding him to pick it up, and letting him know that it was missed last year.

17. Last time I put out three paper bags full of groceries that I bought specifically
for the food drive, but my mail carrier didn't pick them up. When I got home that evening, they had gotten rained on. I am not sure I want to do that again this year. I felt like a big chump last year. I still donate to the Boy Scouts food drive each year, though. They haven't stiffed me yet.

20. There is a better solution than buying food for the drive

If you give money instead of food, Second Harvest/Feeding America can buy about ten pounds of food for every dollar donated.

This year my pantry is pretty empty so I'm leaving them a check instead.

21. If that happens, just drop it off at the post office within a day or two.
They'll know what to do with it.

(or refer them to their own campaign at www.helpstampouthunger.com)

26. Oops. Thought it was Friday
They left a blue bag in my mailbox Thursday, so I left some canned food out last night. It was gone when I got home, so I guess they aren't too picky.
