The Honeymoon is over...
I'm pissed...i dont care if a million of you flame me for this...I'm tired of wall street and the banks ..I'm tired of hoping those who tortured will be held accountable..I dont get the same warm fuzzy feeling when I look at Jackeens photo threads...there is a message from Durbin that wall street owns congress...now... today...today I read about the contributions Obama has received from wall street...I'm sick of this war in Afghanistan...I dont want a poetry slam in the white house because its cool...I want Obama to slam the shit out of wall street and stop foreclosures..it is so disturbing to watch the banks take advantage in every damned way imaginable..including the bogus stress tests which lists the phony values of the homes they will foreclose on but not write down...we are watching this sham and obama is friggin participating...i cant stand to even look at geithner....wtf is happening?

1. When your boat is leaking...
The first thing you have to do is to bail out the water before you raise the sail...

5. I have not heard these words of wisdom before but they are good advice.
I think too many people expect too much too soon. After you bail out the water you patch the leak and then you raise the sails.

13. granted...but ive gotta see something...something other than words..
some move that puts things in perspective...millions of us...a handful of them...but they've got the money...and so far...i haven't seen it...i dont want to believe what my gut is telling me...but these past few weeks...with durbins bill not passing, and durbins statements then and on moyers last night re who runs congress...and the article on du today listing wall streets political contributions and to whom..and the bogus stress tests released on friday...and the fact that i watch every single day to see if there is any legitimate proposal enacted to help us out of this mess...and guess what..no is the big answer..
and geithner??????..cmon....
this hurts because so much is being done right...but on these issues..the heavy weight, breathing down our backs issues..like torture and war and wall street...well...ladeedah...little beautiful boats are sinking at the rate of one every 20 minutes while a big corporate wall street is crushing everything in its path...

President Obama has stood up for the health workers in California and announced today his support for Credit Card reform to protect the holders from the big banks. Just words? Maybe? But what else would you have him do?

when it was before the senate...the banks who recieved tarp money should not have been allowed to lobby against that bill with tarp money...fined, fired and more...

get rid of anyone in his administration with ties to goldman sachs...aig...get rid of corporate lobbying...stop the foreclosure crisis..demand a legitimate stress test which does not count bogus values for real estate on their books...there is urgency...because this one little failed move two weeks ago( durbins bill) will result in 8 million more foreclosures this year...oh well...

47. Sure its fine
myself I realize everything can't be changed over night. I also think he has his priorities set on a path where he can attain his and my lofty goals. President Obama is a different kind of politician, pretty much one of a kind. Its going to take some time to change it all but he's well on his way already. One of his first steps was to change the tone in washington and he's well on his way to doing that. The rushican are about out of their hot air, plus as soon as they realize that the way forward for them is to do what the President is doing but only better we'll all benifit from it. Thats why I said bull to start with, nothing personal
continue with the good fight don't worry with me,

22. "Leaking?" You've GOT to be kidding.
The analogy is so inaccurate I hardly know where to begin. I would say that a more accurate analogy would be a ship hijacked by pirates and run across iron shore, ripping the bottom out. How is cooperating with the pirates in any way going to solve this situation?

23. No.
The FIRST thing you have to do is plug the leak !

Trying to Bail Out the boat before fixing the problem is a useless endeavor that is ultimately doomed to failure. At the very best, it may buy you some time if the leak is not catastrophic.
The "leak" in our Economic System is catastrophic (to put it mildly).

Our current administration is simply pouring our children's future into a leaky boat.
They are talking about fixing the boat later (reforms).
We ALL know what happens when our politicians tell us they are going to "fix it later"

The time to IMPOSE effective regulation on Wall Street was BEFORE giving them the money.
There in NO leverage for regulation AFTER they have the money....
...but our politicians already know this.
We will see NO effective changes to our Financial system.
The total effort so far has been to reanimate the vampire...not kill it.

..it is this very system that has caused the failure - so structural reform is required. Let's reorganize the clumsy, inept, ungovernable, and corrupt financial system by ousting those who wrecked it, splitting up its component parts (banking, investment, and insurance), and establishing decentralized, manageable-sized financial institutions operating on the locally controlled models of credit unions, co-ops, and community banks." ---Jim Hightower

Jim Hightower is correct.
Unfortunately, "those who wrecked it" have been promoted to powerful positions in the White House.

NOW we have Your Children’s Money too !!!
And there is not a fucking thing you can do about it!
Now THIS is “Post-Partisanship” !
Better get used to it!!
Hahahahahahahahaha!

I got to see Rahm's evil work up close during the Democratic Primaries in 2005.
Appointing this authoritarian thug as the Gatekeeper to the White House told me in no uncertain terms that "listening to the people" was merely an empty campaign slogan.

8. Geithner Summers and Emanuel
Edited on Sat May-09-09 01:49 PM by bajamary
I knew the promise of change to the old ways of Washington (ie: control of-for & by lobbyists) was in deep doodoo when Obama appointed Rahm (my former Congressperson), then Summers and Geithner.

I have not given up hope that We The People can make a difference.

It is true that , in the words of my favorite Senator from the Land of the True Lincoln, "the bankers own Washington".

But let us not still our voices but raise them higher again and again and again.

Change, real progressive change, was never an easy process. Never.

41. I don't mind people saying,
"We should try to include greater protection for borrowers and greater restrictions on lenders." That's quite reasonable, and I like the reforms Obama has passed and is proposing, though we can of course always do more. I don't mind people saying, "capitalism has more drawbacks than benefits, so we should try to move towards a planned economy." I don't think that would be a good thing, but it's a realistic long-term goal. But to complain that Obama has in his first few months only attempted to fix the financial industry instead of attempting to completely destroy it? That's just nonsense.

40. Was going to happen
The sad reality is that these organisations should never had been bailed out; they should have been shut down, liquidated and allow the banks that didn't engage in risky lending to take their place. I also find it interesting you slam wall street whilst ignoring the idiotic lending by fannie mae and freddie mac to people who shouldn't have been touching a mortgage with a forty foot barge pole, couple that with artificially low interest rates (economy stimulated through debt based consumption - using the equity in their house like a credit card), a corrupt private/public collusion in the form of the federal reserve - something was bound to go wrong at some point.

43. Fannie and Freddie backed the loans, rather than issuing them,
and the loan backing was done according to law. Despite the Republican guff, they never tried to prevent Fannie and Freddie from backing subprimes; they tried to keep Fannie and Freddie from backing loans to poor black folk period, with not a word about subprimes during that debate. And even if they had passed those regulations, it still wouldn't have changed anything; Fannie and Freddie were hardly the only source of backing. They didn't back more than a fraction of subprimes, and every single subprime they backed could have found backing elsewhere.

48. Thank you for the correction
You're correct - I find it funny how the Republicans blame the Democrats whilst ignoring that GWB continued the 'sub prime' programme and IIRC expanded it. The government should never have backed any mortgage or debt in the first place. When the government backs something - all the prudent behaviour that risk and the consequences of going wrong promote are taken away when one creates a consequence free environment.
