Man and horse drown while trying to herd cattle
HUTCHINSON, Kan. | A 20-year-old Nickerson, Kan., man and the horse he was riding drowned while herding cattle on Saturday.

Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson said emergency personnel were called Saturday afternoon to a pond in southwest Reno County.

Henderson said Chance Ramsey was helping two other people herd cattle on horses when a cow strayed and Ramsey went after it.

The other two people lost sight of Ramsey and found Ramsey submerged in the pond.

Efforts to revive Ramsey were not successful, and the horse died as well.

Bodies of water can be deceiving. What a shame. There's very few real cowboys left.

2. Now that is odd.
Hmmm. I was always told that you get off your horse when they start to swim and hold on to their tail. I have only done that once in a wide and deep river (it was really fun) but a pond? Must have been pretty boggy and the horse sank in the mud and got stuck?

So sad.
