4. we should not make fun of anyone anymore....
Edited on Sun May-10-09 01:59 AM by 1
not color or disability nor culture or accent.

there should be no more humor about any of that.

no jokes about political differences. height issues. accents. nothing.

all humor must henceforth be disallowed.

agreed?

5. I like a good joke as much as the next guy
But I don't think every joke about Gov. Paterson should be about his disability.

There is PLENTY of joke-worthy material on him without making fun of him SOLELY because he is blind.

8. I am not from NYC/NYS either.
David Paterson took over the Governor's Mansion in NY after Elliot Spitzer resigned because of a scandal involving prostitutes.

(And I did put (D-NY) in the title...)

11. Elliot Spitzer, once known as the "Sheriff of Wall Street" because of his high-level
Prosecutions as AG of NY was elected in the blue wave of 2006. By a huge margin. (69% to 29%.)

Because of the scandal and the fact that public dollars may have been used, he resigned.

His Lt. Governor, David Paterson (also elected by the same margin,) took over after the resignation.

Hillary Clinton was also re-elected to the US Senate by a similar margin in 2006 (67% to 31%.) She lost to her Republican opponent in only 4 counties out of the 62.

13. I'm from NY and not offended
Paterson makes self deprecating remarks regarding his disability frequently. He has to expect some blowback with all the new taxes and fees he has pushed on us.

17. SNL is never funny
So why expect these jokes to be funny? They are lazy franchise writers. They make the easy, low hanging jokes. The surface.
Funny people can make jokes about others without going for the obvious, but SNL writers are not funny people.

20. I like that bit in the Tim Robbins mockumentary, Bob Roberts, where John Cusac plays....
...a comic/actor on what's supposed to be a SNL type show, and he does a take to the camera at one point claiming that such shows by and large exist to keep the populace ignorant about deep politics by keeping the public's focus on cosmetic, celebrity personalities, and play-it-safe humor.

Re SNL, agreed. Early 90s or so was the last time I watched it, and even infrequently then.

24. I don't believe it's funny, anymore than if he had Muscular Dystrophy and jokes were
about that.

If he wanted to joke about it, that's one thing, but I don't find anything humorous about healthy individuals making fun of someone's disability or disease, whether it takes place in a school or a national comedy program, even more so with the latter because the former has somewhat of an excuse; that being immaturity.

The thing is that the guy did such a good job at imitating Paterson's mannerisms that I couldn't stop watching. Oh well.

He must be a Repuke, or whoever writes for him definitely is. The Obama character is terrible too.
