Timothy J. Gross, the 38-year-old man arrested late Sunday night on the charge of making a bomb, is a former military member who had trouble holding down a job, was accused of harassing his ex-girlfriend and was thrown in jail for violating a permanent injunction, court records show.

The Ocala resident is charged with attempted felony murder and making a destructive device.

According to charging documents, Gross admitted that he made a bomb and placed it at the residence of Katrina Harvey, who discovered it on her doorstep late Saturday night.

The package was wrapped in brown paper and had Harvey’s first name, “Katrina,” written on it. Harvey, who is in her early 30s, tossed the suspicious-looking package into the bushes and then decided to call police about it early Sunday morning.
