A Fair Warning to Any Politicians Reading This Page
Edited on Tue May-12-09 04:32 PM by ThomWV
Last week I received my first Social Security check after having paid into the system every working day for half a century. If any politicians thinks for one second that they will cut the benefits I am to receive those persons should know I will work night and day to cut their collective balls off. You may call it 'the third rail' of American Politics, but I'll make it a political guillotine for you if you try to fuck with what I've earned and paid for.

That's all I have to say about it. You are forewarned.

On Edit: And I don't give a tinker's dam which Party you belong to.

4. You do know?
That all that money you sent in everyday has already been spent. That in order to pay you now several young workers paying in will be in effect paying you?

5. I am well aware of how the system works - and I also am well aware I'll be dead before it goes broke
And yes, it will be my children and my grandchildren who pay my bill - just as I paid my father's and my grand father's.

7. Realism!!
So rare these days. I figure we'd have to get in a knock-down drag-out.

Pleased to be mistaken.

10. The realism that hurts is knowing full well where the money went
The money was lent out to the Agencies over the years and supposedly they will pay it back from their current year's budget when the time comes for the bills to be called in. We both know pigs will fart Dixie in perfect tune before that happens. I worked for the Federal Government for almost half of my working life and as a Contracting Officer during a good number of those days I was the person with the pen in hand that actually did the spending. Every Contract, Grant, and Cooperative Agreement I ever signed broke my heart in one way - knowing full well the public would receive little to no benefit from the millions I was spending.

13. True Story
Told a family member who was complaining about paying taxes that the taxes they were paying today were going to paying for Grannie's nursing home.

So, I asked, aren't you glad you aren't having to pay the whole bill by yourself?

6. I paid for my parents and grandparents.
The kids can damn well pay for me when the time comes, which will be in about five years. I will be Medicare eligible before then, and I will need the benefits, because I have some health issues.

I will help Thom cut off some balls if they think I am going to be left out in the cold with nothing.

The fools on NPR said that Social Security will be bankrupt in 2037, and Medicare will be bankrupt in eight years. I plan on being around in eight years. They will be paying my bills or they will hear about it. If the boomers could fuck up their plans to keep the Vietnam War going forever, we can fuck up their plans to cut us off after we've spent a lifetime paying for everyone else. They couldn't kill us all then, and they won't kill us all now.

8. Kill us all now?
Oh, they could, but don't go giving them any ideas.

Ya know, just one of the richest could probably support about 30+ retirees if they saw fit do so. But you can bet most of them were in favor of staying in Vietnam.

12. Inter-generational bargain.. It's our "turn" now..
Our generation OVERpaid for most of our lives so that our grandparents & parents could have a decent reitirement...and THEY had the extra advantage of having had access to pensions too..which most of us did not even have the opportunity to have..

Fair is fair..

14. Fair?
I don't quite get it....

What's not fair is that as we grew up we paid ever higher prices for life-essential, real world goods that they sold us at a great profit.

It was in their interest to have prices inflate so they could scrape the cream off the top and live fabulous lifestyles while never really working that hard.

The really physically hard workers paid with their bodies to build this country and pretty much all die early.

16. You do realize
that the money is all gone, right? That it's long been spent by Republicans and Democrats alike? That the money you get out is not the savings you put in, but the savings of the person who comes after you? A person, I might add, who will never get to see his own SS/Medicare payout because the system will have long since been bankrupt?

I highly encourage you to study the economics behind how these programs operate and why they simply cannot support a generation as large as the boomers, who are expected to have the longest lifespans of any generation to date. The timing of this depression is no coincidence, as the boomers are about to cash in. There are not enough people to buy what will need to be sold in order for the boomers to experience the quality of life they may have expected. We will soon find out just how special those Special Treasury Bonds that were swapped for your savings really are.
