The power of images
I was young but I remember how adults did not believe the horror stories out of vietnam. We're the good guys, we don't do shit like that. The stories didn't change people's minds, the testimonies on the hill didn't change people's minds, the Vietnam Vets against the war didn't change people's minds, the student protests didn't change people's minds,.....

Coming face to face with the results, made people damn uncomfortable

The photos must come out.

3. I'll never forget seeing that top photo when I was a kid -- maybe age six or so.
I asked my mom why the kids were running and screaming and she had to explain the war to me somewhat.

And look at that little baby's body in the bottom photo ...

6. I can remember the news of the day
tallying how many of the VC were killed compared to how many of the good guys were killed....as if killing 5 of them to 1 of us was some type of victory.

And then years later I saw the photos of the VC many barely teenagers. Do you think if the TV news showed the faces of the people we killed we would have continued that war for more than a decade? No, you have to kill anonymously. You have to dehumanize the enemy.

The photos will put a face on our enemy. And we won't be proud of what we've done.

13. Do you remember the daily counts and pictures of our dead soldiers?
BushCo knew better than to allow that this time around.

Even as a preschooler, I was seriously against the war.

5. I used to read the magazines when I was a kid.
They didn't hide the horrors of war back then.

7. Now you understand embedding.
It doesn't allow such scenes to be photographed. The Germans were genius to come up with it. Only glorius firefights with armed enemies are allowed.

8. In Biden's commencement speech Sunday he was comparing 1968 to now
and he mentioned a powerful photo that helped turn public opinion about Vietnam - the one where the man is shot in the head.

Interesting with what's happening with the photos today.

is all about national security and the safety of the troops and the obama's masterful political chess playing?

tsk tsk.

It doesn't have *one single thing* to do with public opinion.

try looking forward. here, put on these rose-colored glasses. they'll help.
