The torture photos did not come up at the Obama townhall meeting in NM
My own sense is that people who are struggling in this country (most of them anyway) are not overly preoccupied with when these pictures will be released. They have bigger fish to fry right now. Like paying the bills, finding and keeping a job, and keeping their homes. Notice that people at the town meeting asked questions about bread and butter issues.

This issue may be at the top of the radar screen for the Moveon.org/San Francisco penthouse crowd, but it's way down the list for most everybody else.

4. To be fair, it is New Mexico
I can't tell you how it is today outside the cities, but damn. It used to be developing-world-rough out there. I did some service work several years ago, and it felt like the Peace Corps. :(

5. 40 more pictures. 40 pictures added to the stack.
Yeah, it sounds as if the good people of NM are not as obsessed with this shiny new toy as we are at DU.

6. I think you are right in your assessment... (perhaps without
the Moveon comment)... Heck, it is way down on my list after: homelessness, mountaintop removal, health care, living wage, ending the war in Iraq, gay marriage, media ownership reform, prison reform, war on drugs, wind/solar power, food insecurity, changing the financing of public schools, fair housing, torture hearings...

Torture has supposedly ended... that remains the important concern. I would like to see hearings. Maybe, the release of the photos but in comparison to other issues, no.

8. And that matters why???
Funny I don't belong to either of those groups, but I guess compared to the people at the townhall meeting, I can be concerned about more then my stomach or my wallet.

Did you say bread and butter or was that bread and circuses.

9. "the Moveon.org/San Francisco penthouse crowd" ? Is that code for literate?
Or for people who won't trade liberty for security?

I forget.

13. It's code for people who have the luxury of not worrying about day to day survival
They can afford a Prius, and then they look down upon the rest of us as "wasteful pigs"; they have the luxury of shopping at expensive organic food stores, and then mock those of us who shop at regular grocery stores; they hate guns and gun-owners, but of course they have the luxury of living in crime-free communities or can otherwise afford armed private security.

I grew up with such people, and went to college with such people. I know their type well.

17. I guess code is not dependent on reality then.
Because I can remember a time when people in the greater San Francisco area were homeless despite having jobs as police and teachers and firefighters.

Something about a bubble.

26. Too bad those average, struggling folks don't realize that if they made a LOUD enough stink...
...re the deep seated, widespread corruption of this govt and its military/intel and its ghastly war crimes, it could serve to pressure the overarching corporate structure, likewise infected by an ethos of greed, that does plague their day to day existence.

In wanting to avoid the unpleasant realities of their empire, and/or via the typical 'stand by your man' authoritarian indoctrination, they're allowing a leveraging opportunity to slip by, and demonstrating to the rest of the world, horrified and outraged by America's Spreading Democracy, Inc, that they're oblivious to moral truth.

16. It isn't funny
sarcasm is supposed to have some humor involved but your sig line is not funny... It is making you seem like a total idiot though.

Your comment about Move on is also not very funny.

21. It's well known that the working class doesn't trouble itself with moral issues.
Everybody knows their just a bunch ignorant proles who are only concerned about bowling balls and deer season.

Funny, my carpenter/longshoreman/socialist father actually read books, kept track of the news, and fought for human rights most of his life. And, that 2 bedroom house the 6 of us lived in didn't resemble any penthouses I never ran across.

The government is SUPPOSED to be transparent.

You've proven an obstruction of freedom.
