they are not new, they were leaked to the Sydney Morning Herald a couple of years ago.

dog bites, being dragged across rocks or glass?

Not dog bites. Not being dragged over something. Too widely dispersed for that. Maybe scalpels.

Could be what's left after a "stress position" over something with small bumps with hard edges.

One of the techniques of the inquisition was to lay a person out, hands and arms tied, with the small of the back placed over a board or other "obstruction". Over the course of hours the back will go into spasm. I can easily imagine the skin being broken in a sort of secondary wound.

I'm no expert but this could be consistent with that type of torture.

Or maybe a red-hot poker being applied to the skin.

it says they were leaked a couple a years ago, so whether or not they are the pictures in question I'm not sure. I am sure that they are a reasonable facsimile.

There are some that are similar like Graner punching guys with sand bags on their heads.

We're either a country of laws, or it's only a law when the President says it is. Something must be done!

3. Principles of the Law of War

Discipline in combat is essential. Disbedience to the Law of War dishonors the Nation, the Marine Corps, and the individual Marine; and far from weakening the enemy's will to fight, it strengthens it. The following principles require the Marine's adherence in the accomplishment of any mission


<*>Marines fight only enemy combatants.
<*>marines do not harm enemies who surrender. Disarm them and turn them over to your superior.
<*>Marines do not kill or torture prisoners.
<*>Marines collect and care for the wounded, whether friend or foe.
<*>Marines do not attack medical personnel, facilities, or euipment.
<*>Marines destroy no more than the mission requires.
<*>Marines treat all civilians humanely.
<*>Marines do not steal. Marines respect private property and possessions.
<*>Marines should do their best to prevent violations of the Law of War. Report all violations of the Law of War to your superior.


Violations of these principles detract from the commander's ability to accomplish his mission, have an adverse impact on public opinion (both national and international), have on occasion served to prolong the conflict by inciting an oppponent to continue resistance, and in most cases constitute violations of the UCMJ. These principles are consistent with the principles of war, principles of leadership, and tactical considerations. Violations of these principles disregard these basic military tenets and prejudice the good order and discipline essential to success in combat.

4. Sources of the Law of War

The Law of War is derived from two principal sources:

<*>Law making treaties (or conventions)
<*>Custom

Under the Constitution, treaties constitute part of the "Supreme Law of the Land" and have a force equal in laws enacted by Congress. Although some of the Law of War is not incorporatedin any treaty or convention to which the United States is a party, this body of unwrittenor customary law is firmly established by the custom of nations. It is also part of the United States and is binding upon the United States, its citizens, and persons serving in the Armed Forces of this country.

Yep- America is indeed a nation full of torturers and it (as well as its people) well deserve the reputation they've earned abroad.
