Former Sacramento King Wayman Tisdale Dies

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Former Sacramento King and jazz musician Wayman Tisdale has died after a two-year battle with bone cancer.

St. John Medical Center in Tulsa says he died Friday morning.

Tisdale had been battling cancer for two years. According to his official website, the cancer was discovered after he fell down a flight of steps and broke his leg. Last year, he had part of his right leg amputated in an attempt to stop the cancer.

The 6-foot-9 forward from Tulsa was a three-time All-American for Oklahoma. Tisdale spent 12 years in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers, Phoenix Suns and as a Sacramento King.

After his basketball career, Tisdale returned to his first love, music. He recorded several jazz albums. He had been scheduled to play a concert in Sacramento later this summer at the Meadowview Jazz Festival.

3. RIP Wayman
I was fortunate enough to have attended OU during his tenure. He was a man among boys at the D-1
level and probably would have gone pro out of high school if it was allowed at that time.
I also had the opportunity to have a brief conversation with him on campus. He was a humble guy
with extreme talents.

I attended OU as well, though after Wayman's days there. His memory was still there, though, for sure. He was a great player, and by all accounts I've heard he was a great individual as well. He was certainly a great representative of the university and will be missed by the OU community.

Welcome to DU :hi:

5. RIP Wayman
Sad indeed. I knew Wayman, casually, he wasn't a real close friend or anything but being in the Tulsa music scene I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with him numerous times over the years. He was a talented musician and a real class act, always the nicest, most courteous guy you could imagine.

He will be missed :(
