Poll question: Budget saving item: NASA
We will spend almost $19B on NASA this budget year. France, the largest contributor to the ESA pays right at 800M euro. Even with larger contribution requirements to serve a larger space program we would still save billions by joining ESA.

1. NASA's budget is rounding error compared to our defense budget...
and the money we spend paying interest on our debt.

What NASA needs is a director and a mandate that lasts longer than a single presidential term.

3. Yes
One-tenth the AIG bailout(aka NASAs budget) IS small potatoes, relatively speaking.
NASA needs Pete Worden at NASA HQ.

2. Outsourcing our space program to "save costs"?
Why, what a clever idea. Maybe all our industries will think of it.

4. It wouldn't be outsourced as we would still work on the program
it would be shared costs. Facilities in the US would become part of the ESA and play a role in the space program. Efficiency and international cooperation.

5. Which, in theory, is a lovely idea...
Meanwhile, we've seen and heard about the results of other forms of "efficiency and international cooperation". Toothpaste, dog food, drywall...

Having real regulation, real efficiency, real cooperation, real outcomes - sign me up for that instead.

6. Saying you want "real regulation, real efficiency, real cooperation, real outcomes"
It's hard to tell if you are saying you don't want the Europeans or NASA? :)

I know there have been issues with drywall from China, I guess maybe the other two are issues from there as well, of course China isn't part of the ESA.
