I'm standing with Pelosi

And I don't even like her but if she's going to fight the CIA I got to back her up.

I just hope she doesn't let us down. She needs to fight back like Maxine Waters used too.

Just tell it like it is.

The CIA is evil and everybody knows it.

1. CIA is the biggest terrorist organization.
I am hoping that Nancy Pelosi will decide to have a investigation started. This is all a distraction and filthy sleazy games of the repigs.

2. And Don't Take The Right Wing Bait...
Now Rushbo wants her ousted...does that take the wraps off this astroturf game or what?

I feel confident she won't only weather this storm but will be in a stronger position to push for a truth commission or some other independent investigation...which is what she is in favor of. She knows what that means...and she'll have to answer tough questions, but so will many others; especially those that did the actual torturing.

The corporate media, as always, jumps on the hot topic and right wing talking points. I haven't heard a word about the CIA backing down to former Senator Bob Graham who called their bullshit on his briefings and now I see Speaker Pelosi doing the same thing. The wingnuts inflame her at their peril. It's almost like they want an investigation and to open a real can of whoop-ass on their sorry party.

She took a lot of heat for the FISA bill last year that was all of Hoyer's doing. Yes, he stands with her here and I would think almost every House Democrat does.

Remember how Nancy supported Murtha for Steny's job.

I wouldn't trust Steny. He might be standing behind her, but with what in his hand?

Oh, and YES, the CIA is evil. So? Ever occur to anyone that it's possible that she knows AND the CIA is evil? How can anyone believe that these people up in Congress didn't know? WE knew.

7. Remember the Pelosi daughter.....
who did a puff piece on bush during his election she blogs over at HuffingtonPost trying to wipe that stain off her resume by being a so called "progressive". Why the harsh word because they got to close to the bushes...Nancy did not do any CYA by inking a letter of protest and have it on hand her excuse sounds hollow and without conviction...there may be more...she may very well have gone along with it because they scared her. Now you get the questions of why she never ever really pushed for impeachment.

I think she will survive because what is happening is blackmail what she did was low level...they notified her...but she had no real power to stop them...other than to write a letter to cover her ass down the line...and that my friends is where she failed.

Panetta came out today trying to keep the C.I.A. morale up...Nancy should have listened to the question better when the reporter said "lied" she said mis-led but the major media picked up lied.

I think the republicans are working there people in the C.I.A. it really is partisan now...I say special prosecutor.

bottom line Republicans found a weak spot (Pelosi) taking advantage of it, democrats need to change the debate or frame the debate with and equally more counter. Obama coming out and saying this has become too partisan we are now going to investigate with special independent prosecutor.

10. I know she tried to have it both ways but don't they all? Half the democratic party is sellouts.

I don't want to lose her to the CIA and Republicans. They don't run this party. It's up to US what happens to her. NOT THEM!

9. I am standing with Pannetta
He has a better track record for telling the truth and standing by his positions. Everybody is so fixated on "ITS THE CIA". Its not the CIA, its Leon Pannetta, who IMNSHO has much more integrity than Pelosi.

17. He was being very PC, but its clear that he called Pelosi a liar
Edited on Fri May-15-09 03:04 PM by ProgressiveProfessor
Pelosi is trying to duck any responsibility for what went on. She clearly has motive.

What is Pannetta's reason to lie? It could have just blamed it on the prior guys and moved on. Instead he, a major Democrat, took on the Democratic Speaker. That would be nuts unless there were very good reasons to and the WH supported it.

Occam Razor and their respective records do not lie. I'll still back Pannetta

21. You are right that CIA is scum. Anyone that doesn't know that
needs to read up.

The problem I'm having, or would be having if this really mattered, is that I sat across the table from Nancy Pelosi's top aide here in town and he smiled the whole time he lied to me. And even before the meeting, he sent the security people to harass us to soften us up before the meeting. It was completely unnecessary. We had no signs, were not making noise, were just going up to the floor where the conference room was. But he did it because he could. And he lied to us about the way Nancy would handle Patraeus because he could.

And this aide didn't do that because he's a dick but because it was policy although Nancy Pelosi might today claim she didn't know anything about it. Just as she acted shocked and surprised and outraged when Code Pink demonstrated at her house -- because she refused to meet with her constituents, whom she also repudiated to the press. Maybe she was also unaware of what district she ran in.

This mess is in part of her own making, just not the way it's being reported.

The larger issue here is, why are the Democrats not taking charge of the news cycle?

25. I don't like her either. Hell she gave Bush every penny he asked for.

But I can't stand by and let the CIA fire her. Who's in charge of this party anyway. Besides the thugs are demanding she resign too. If she resigns it's got to be becuase WE want her too.

Why aren't the Dems taking charge? Beats me! Do they ever take charge? They're on the defensive as usual!

28. No one is going to fire her. I just listened to one of her surrogates
and the impression I'm getting -- nothing that was said outright, so it's jmo -- is that this is how the Republicans are pressuring her to take prosecution off the table, too. JMO

Edited on Fri May-15-09 03:18 PM by jeanpalmer
$40 billion a year down a dry hole. They cause more harm to the country than any agency in our government except the Republican Party. This would be an excellent occasion to rid ourselves of these torturers and assassins. We wouldn't know the difference, except people would hate us less, we'd be $40 billion richer each year, there would be fewer embarrassing kidnapping fiascoes and international incidents, fewer legitimate goverments would be overthrown, we wouldn't receive wrong/worthless intelligence to support the resource wars, and a lot of innocent people would avoid being tortured or assassinated. It would a coup for the country and humanity. And once they're gone, people will say, "Why didn't we do this a long time ago?"

30. That is a GREAT thread in the Editorials forum!
I've often wondered if DU should open a separate sub-forum just to document and discuss CIA crimes and cover-ups. I guess that's what the 911 forum basically does, but 911 is just one of many.

Anyway, K/R!!

23. I think Bob Graham has more credibility than many at the CIA
which we KNOW was corrupted and manipulated by Cheney during the previous administration. I don't know how anyone can trust Tenet or his hacks at the time.

I agree. I don't particularly like Pelosi, but until other congressional Dems on the intelligence committee actually say otherwise, I' believe her and Bob Graham.

I am starting to think the Repugs overplayed their hand. They had it made when she took impeachment off of the table. Now they have started attacking her to deflect attention from their crimes.....Nancy is the target and she has had enough.

I do think that the illegal wiretapping was done on many Congress members and I think that the truth is on it's way out......simply because the Repugs couldn't help themselves.
