Someone is mailing drugs to my house and I didn't order them
For the second time in a month, we came home and found a package from Express Scripts on our front porch with someone's prescription meds in it. The address on the package is our street and zip but a different house number that does not exist, one digit off of ours.

First time we called the delivery company and they came and picked up the package. Today I called the 800 number on the package, thinking it was FedEx and it was Express Scripts. I got a recording, went through the motions, was on hold and finally got a customer service rep, just as I was about to give up and hang up. He looked up the name on the package and said that person doesn't even live in Kansas, but on the east coast. So I said well I hold the package until someone comes back and picks it up.

Service rep says will you call Fed Ex. I say I don't mind calling but I really think YOU should call, especially since this is the second time this has happened and I am sure this patient wants these meds. He says well it will be better if I call. He says call 1-800-FEDEX. I say wait, that isn't enough digits. He says well I am sure you can find them on the internet. I say if I am going to call then you are going to have to give me the number. So he looks it up for me (it's 1-800-GOFEDEX) And he says thank you and hangs up.

So I call Fed Ex, they are much nicer, thank me several times and promise to send a driver right over to pick up the package.

Blows my mind. Try to do the right thing and this mail order prescription company makes me jump through hoops. I should have opened the package and kept the drugs.

Remind me not to do business with Express Scripts.

4. If it were me
I would mail a letter to the person the meds are intended for and let them know what's going on. I wouldn't trust the prescription provider to alert their paying customer.

14. Didn't you say you were told
...the person lived on the east coast? Perhaps the number that was off was the zip code. Maybe you could do a little Googling and figure out which zip code.

16. No it is my zip code
The house number was one digit off. And the house number on the package doesn't exist.

Perhaps the address exists - in another zip code. Unless, the person at the prescription provider told you otherwise.

EDIT ADD: If the person's zip code was added into the prescription provider's database incorrectly, that would explain why you're getting their shipments. I'm not say this is absolutely the case, but it's worth a shot.

Postal workers depend much more on zip codes than they do individual addresses.

23. I Googled the address without the city and zip
and it comes up with my city and zip.

If this address does exist I wouldn't know how to find it.

a 'sort-of' real address to receive them??

I've faced similar situations. **You** attempt to do the right thing and **you** get asked to do more while the malefactor just goes "whoops!".

On edit: I forgot the most important thing: Good on you for being the good guy!

8. We have an illiterate mailman
and most of the time we redeliver the mail.

At least this is a neighborhood with sidewalks instead of some anonymous McHouse district with nothing facing the street but a big garage door and no way to know anyone else.

10. Same here, we are on a training route
Plus we live on the border of a zip code zone. The street behind us is a different zip. So we get mis delivered mail all the time.

15. It's a Karma thing for me
I would want someone to send my package back.

FedEx guy was just here. Super nice. Said he would make sure and trace it back to see that Linda gets her meds. I said let's hope she isn't on one of those meds you shouldn't stop taking suddenly. :scared:

18. It's called "cost shifting"
businesses try to do it as much as possible.
Everything they can get others to do, the more profit they make.
Next time, I would call the Scripts people and tell them you are calling the police and/or state attorney general's office because something is not right about this and they are not fixing a problem concerning a controlled substance.
Screw 'em!

21. You might be missing something here
On-line pharmacies mail millions of prescriptions monthly that are billed to Medicare. Quite often, the people receiving these drugs have passed away or have quit taking the meds and have asked the pharmacy to quit sending them. That doesn't make them any money, so they keep sending them as long as the prescription is valid because Medicare continues to pay for them. This scam by the pharmacy industry has been going on for decades now. I know because my ex-wife worked for a pharmacist who did it. Waste is no concern of theirs as long as they get paid for the prescription.

If someone calls to cancel a prescription, the pharmacy just sends them to a bogus address and they still get paid by Medicare. Since the patient never sees the meds, they have no idea the prescription is still being filled and billed to Medicare. You would be amazed at how many pharmacy owners scam Medicare out of money. I'm sure it runs into the billions!

25. I had a mail-order company send me.....
....a Christams tree with built in fiber-optic lights. Of course, i did not order it and called the company to report it. They said to put it on the porch and UPS would pick it up in a couple of days. They never did. I donated to a charity auction.

26. Relative in nursing home always over billed. I do his bill
each month (nursing home requires use of certain mail pharmacy) and there has not been a month that I have not had to challenge several parts of the bill. I finally get his bill corrected (credit for certain items), but I wonder if Medicare and his insurance company are as lucky.

30. meh, I'd probably just call the DEA
Bet the company would be more careful after a few of THOSE visits

Also, wondering about the practice of just leaving packages of prescription drugs on doorsteps. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. If some kid took them and had bad reaction, would you be open to a law suit?

Guess I would be calling my insurance agent too. Bring a lot of different players into the mix and something will get done to stop the carelessness of the shipper. ;)
